The Capital Jaguars went 12-17, 2-6 making the state tournament. Head coach Ben Gomez returns and enters his second season (in his second tenure).
Overview: The Capital Jaguars are coming into the 2015-2016 season with plenty of hype and back into the Top-25. The Jaguars also a favorite in 5A basketball, preseason Top-5 (No. 5 NMPreps.com 5A Rankings). They return some quality players, leading to the highly anticipated season, with Eric Coca. Coca scored 13.8 points per game, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 2014-2015.
Last Season
Record: 12-17, 2-6
Home Record: 7-7
Away Record: 2-8
Neutral Record: 3-2
Post Season: First Round; Lost to Centennial (46-43)
Points per game: 48.1 (1395)
Points against: 48.2 (1398)
Realistic Prediction: The Jaguars, we agree, should be a favorite and will be there late into March. How far? That is a question that we will have to wait and see to answer but if we are projecting (and we are) this could be an Elite Eight team. Right now we have them in that section, many will argue Final Four or Title game, but we have that reserved for others at the moment. Don't get me wrong, Ben Gomez being re-hired was the best thing Capital could have done, they should have never let him go in the first place. 20-win team, will likely happen, depending on their schedule and Elite Eight for now.
District Champ: 95%
Playoff Team: 100%
Elite Eight: 95%
Final Four: 90%
Title Game: 80%
Returning Players: Coca has been mentioned and one of the more profile names listed this off-season. The other player being talked about in this backcourt is Jeremy Anaya creating a two player tandem.
