The Highland Hornets are coming off a season that was well under average going 4-21, 2-6 on the season missing the state tournament.
Overview: When you think of those coaches that do more with less you have to think of coach Danny Brown. The Hornets will be much improved from last season and has plenty of hype going into the 2015-2016 season. One guard that we were high on in the summer was a deep range soon-to-be freshman by the name Fabian Roybal. Fast forward and Roybal will be one of the juniors to watch this season and will come into his own as the team is handed to the 2017 class member.
Last Season
Record: 4-21, 2-6
Home Record: 2-9
Away Record: 2-7
Neutral Record: 0-5
Post Season: Missed the playoffs
Points per game: 44.84 (1121)
Points against: 59.36 (1484)
Realistic Prediction: Highland was not very good offensively last season and in a day where uptempo offense rules the Hornets fell behind last season. That is okay though, for one, they lost their top scoring guard in Roybal. Secondly, they were in a transition season and just getting experience. Okay, I will agree with you if you say this team should not be in the Top-25 coming off a 4-win season and likely we are buying into the hype but we love what coach Brown does. This will be a team that could be the most improved from one year to another. 10-14 wins and a state tournament bid is staying 'realistic' at this point. With only two seniors returning with varsity experience this team will be one of the younger but a threat in 2016-2017.
District Champ: 71.1%
Playoff Team: 53%
Elite Eight: 15%
Final Four: 10%
Title Game: 5%
Returning Players: Roybal is the name we know but this roster should bolster plenty of new names to the scene. They have a pair of big men in 6-5 posts headlined by Cael Apodaca who has been improving and just going to be a junior this kid will improve well in this program.
