Preseason Rankings: No. 18 Rio Grande Ravens

The 2015-2016 season has officially started and today we start our countdown of the top 50 programs in New Mexico Big School Division (6A-4A).

The Rio Grande Ravens are coming off a (12-15, 3-5) season along with a State Tournament appearance.

Overview: The Rio Grande Ravens return a roster full of experience, height and talent. Head coach Sean Jimenez has a deep team this season and one that will be able to run with other, talented teams. Last season they struggled allowing 62 points a game and unable to match that but they should have the experience and talent to run with other teams in transition. Marshall Moore (2016) was mentioned as a 25 Guards to Watch This Season and for good reason as the athletic shooting guard has the potential to be a quality guard, he will need to make senior like decisions with the ball.

Last Season
Record: 12-15, 3-5
Home Record: 6-2
Away Record: 5-9
Neutral Record: 1-4
Post Season: First Round; Lost to Carlsbad (67-43)
Points per game: 57.22(1545)
Points against: 62.44 (1686)

Realistic Prediction: The Ravens are ranked in a perfect spot, not to low, not to high but somewhere along the middle in 6A basketball (No. 14 NMPreps.com 6A Rankings). The Ravens have room to improve and this team has potential to break into the Top-10 but they need to win all the must win type games this year. Right now we have them around the 15-19 win mark and first round showing. Almost wanted to go with an Elite Eight prediction but they haven't been there since around 2005 and need room to improve but they are building it in the right direction.

District Champ: 80%
Playoff Team: 100%
Elite Eight: 55%
Final Four: 30%
Title Game: 20%

Returning Players: Marshall Moore, a slashing type of guard that likes to attack off the wing or in transition is a great starting spot when looking at this roster. Dakota Yancey (2017) a six-foot-seven post is another player to watch this season.
