The Valley Vikings are coming off a 17-10, 7-1 season in which they reached the Elite Eight.
Overview: The Valley Vikings are back in talks for the State Title only a year removed from their title in 2014. The Vikings return six players from last seasons team and a few top notch players that could find themselves among the Top-10 in the NMPreps.com Top 100 Player Rankings. Point guard Anthony Chavez (2018/PG) returns as one of the best sophomores in the state but also one of the best players all around. The point guard showed high level of poise and control, only as a freshman in the Elite Eight last season.
Last Season
Record: 17-10, 7-1
Home Record: 10-2
Away Record: 5-4
Neutral Record: 2-4
Post Season: Elite Eight; Lost to Rio Rancho (59-57)
Points per game: 55.96 (1511)
Points against: 53.33 (1440)
Realistic Prediction: The Valley Vikings have the best, young, point guards in the state of New Mexico. We honestly feel he could be a legitimate contender for Mr. Basketball as a sophomore. We like this team as a 20-win team and Final Four team this season. We wouldn't be surprised if they played on the final day in March however.
Biggest Questions: They had two stud freshmen last season, do they have a sophomore slump? Or are they too young for a title talk at this point/
Chances
District Champ: 99%
Playoff Team: 100%
Elite Eight: 100%
Final Four: 90%
Title Game: 70%
Returning Players: We mentioned how high we are on Molina but this team also features division one football player in the paint, Teton Saltes a 6'6 power forward. Segun Oyeku is another athletic guard at 5'10" who will be a huge contributor and started this season.
Roster
Daniel Castellano (2016)
Elijah Naranjo (2016)
Noah Santistevan (2016)
