Huge day. In a nutshell:

La Cueva has a two-game lead in district 2-6A over both Eldorado and Sandia, but plays both the Eagles and Matadors this week. La Cueva can clinch the district with a win today, and even if the Bears were to lose twice this week the have the best chance to emerge from a three-way tie as champs based on goal differential. However, a La Cueva loss this week might cost them the No. 1 seed at state.

Hobbs-Clovis is, for all intents and purposes, for the district title in 4-6A.

Gadsden is on the state tournament bubble and needs two wins this week (over Onate and Las Cruces) to stay in second place in the district.

District 3-5A remains tight with Santa Teresa (6-1-1), Chaparral (5-2-1) and Centennial (5-3) in a dogfight, and all travel to Valencia County today. Valencia (4-4) should make the state field, while Los Lunas (3-5) is on the bubble. There are six games in 3-5A this week, and every one could affect state tournament seeding. Yesterday’s posters gave some good insight on this race.

Roswell (3-0-1) will clinch district 4-5A with a win over Lovington. Roswell is also playing for seeding at state – they could be anywhere from No. 2 to No. 5. Lovington makes two trips to Roswell this week. They are on the tournament bubble, and probably need to sweep this week to move ahead of Goddard in the district and make the tournament.

Both Academy and Los Alamos can clinch district titles with wins today.

Hatch Valley is 1-0-1 in district 3-4A, behind Socorro (2-0-1). Hatch hosts Socorro on Thursday, so they need to win today to keep their title hopes alive. Both Hatch and Socorro have a shot at a No. 4 seed and first-round bye.
