Rankings the Games to Watch in Week 9

The must-see games to watch in New Mexico high school football for the week of October 11th-October 16th. #nmpreps

6A FOOTBALL
  1. Las Cruces (4-3) at Centennial (6-1). Saturday. The unofficial District Championship today between the Bulldawgs and Hawks. The winner likely to lock up a top-four seed, and bye, for the 2021 playoffs.
  2. Cleveland (7-0) at Volcano Vista (5-2). Thursday. Are the Volcano Vista Hawks the next up for a long night or can they challenge the Cleveland Storm?
  3. Eldorado (5-3) at Sandia (3-4). Thursday. Eldorado and Sandia both fighting for a playoff spot along with possibly earning a first-round home game. Eldorado is 3-1 while Sandia is 2-1 in district play.
  4. West Mesa (2-4) at Cibola (3-4). Friday. Cibola opened district play against Rio and Cleveland and now get a good bounce back game against West Mesa. Or will the Mustangs play the upset role this week?
  5. Hobbs (3-4) at Organ Mountain (3-3). Saturday. Hobbs lost on a controversial call to end the game last week against Las Cruces. They'll look to rebound against a 3-win Organ Mountain Knights team who is coming off another win and still fighting for a playoff spot.
  6. Santa Fe (5-3) at La Cueva (6-1). Saturday. The Demons of Santa Fe could have had their bubble popped last week with a loss to Clovis. La Cueva looking to lock up a DC and third slot ranking (maybe seed).
  7. Clovis (2-4) at Manzano (1-5). Friday. Clovis needed a win last week and earned one. This week they'll take on district cellar Manzano.
  8. Albuquerque (2-5) at Rio Grande (0-7). Saturday. Bulldog City should roll big and easy against a struggling Ravens team.
  9. Atrisco Heritage (3-4) at Rio Rancho (5-0). Friday. Likely done by halftime.
5A FOOTBALL
  1. Artesia (5-2) at Roswell (2-5): Three weeks left in the 2021 regular season and the start of who will earn a bid to the state playoffs - or earn a top-four seed. Artesia had the week off in week 8, while Roswell looks to shake off a loss to Dumas, Texas.
  2. Deming (4-3) at Santa Teresa (6-1): Here we have a big time playoff implications game. The winner of this contest will likely earn a first round home game and possibly still in the conversation for the DC if the winner can beat Mayfield.
  3. Capital (3-4) at Miyamura (3-5): After the loss last week to PV, Capital is riding on the fringe of the playoffs. Miyamura is sitting on the outside but a win could bring them back into the conversation for that empty 11/12 seats.
  4. Goddard (4-2) at Alamogordo (2-5): Goddard took a loss to Mayfield (20-13) last week and needing a win. Alamogordo is fighting for the postseason and hoping to catch an injured Goddard squad currently on a two game skid.
  5. Los Alamos (3-4) at Piedra Vista (5-3): Los Alamos showed some promise early on but has lost 4 of the last five games after a 2-0 start. Piedra Vista enters the game winning the last two by at least 20-points.
  6. Highland (1-7) at Del Norte (1-6): Both teams have seen better days as they battled injuries and roster limitations. A good final win for either team as they head into the offseason in a few weeks.
  7. Los Lunas (7-0) at Valley (2-5): A four point spread in favor of the second ranked Tigers of Los Lunas.
  8. Mayfield (3-4) at Chaparral (0-7). Mayfield should be back on their way to Las Cruces by 8 (or whenever halftime hits).
4A FOOTBALL

  1. Lovington (4-3) at Silver (5-2)
  2. Valencia (5-3) at St. Pius X (5-2)
  3. Portales (2-5) at Ruidoso (3-4)
  4. Bloomfield (6-1) at Aztec (3-5)
  5. Pojoaque Valley (4-2) at Moriarty (3-3)
  6. Espanola Valley (0-7) at Taos (3-4)
  7. Shiprock (0-7) at Kirtland Central (3-4)
  8. Grants (1-7) at Albuquerque Academy (7-1)
Scoop: Lovington vs Silver has the potential to be a late November playoff game. The Lovington Wildcats enters the game ranked number one and look to avoid a set back in their district opener against the 7th ranked Colts. . Valencia and St. Pius will gives us a clear image of the district championship. A Pius when will set up an Albuquerque Academy vs Pius championship game. Portales and Ruidoso become a seed game and Bloomfield will look to take the charge in district 1. Moriarty should move along against Pojoaque Valley as the Elks are 4-2 but played a fairly easy non-district schedule. The bottom three games, ranked 6-8, will or should be shutouts.
