The school board in Santa Fe voted to change the attendance boundaries for both Capital and Santa Fe high schools to even out student enrollment. The plan goes into effect in school year 2017-18.

Interestingly, the article in the New Mexican says that Capital has about 1,500 students right now and SFHS has about 1,300. SFHS is in 6A right now and Capital is in 5A.

The plan is for each school to have about 1,300 students. That would put both schools on the 6A/5A bubble. Per the article, without the boundary change, Santa Fe High’s population likely would drop to about 1,240 within a decade while Capital High’s could exceed 1,600.
