A seeding meeting is conducted under the direction and supervision of the NMAA on Thursday preceding the State Tournament. Only head coaches or a designee may attend the meeting.

(Representatives are selected based on the results of the district dual meets. The coaches of the championship team and runner-up team shall be the representatives.)

Seeding is overseen by a committee composed of district representatives. The tournament director (authorized by NMAA) may appoint others to assist with the process as necessary. Verification of entries will take place at the seeding meeting.

A. Six individuals are seeded in each weight class in 6A and 5A, four in A-4A.

B. Trackwrestling software will be used to seed all weight classes.

C. NMAA Wrestling Seeding Rules are as follows:

* 1. All wrestlers with a .500 record or better are considered for a seed.

* 2. Schools wishing for wrestlers below .500 to be considered for a seed must request inclusion in the seeding process prior to running the seeding report.

* 3. Criteria points are earned against all wrestlers considered for a seed in the following priority order:
----- a. Head-to-head results
----- b. Records against common opponents
----- c. Returning state place (most recent state tournament)
----- d. Best overall percentage record (must have wrestled a minimum of twelve (12) varsity matches this season; record to include all varsity matches in all weights)

* 4. The wrestler with the most “points” earns the one seed. The wrestler with the second most points earns the two seed, etc.

* 5. Tie breaking procedures are as follows:
----- a. If two individuals are tied on points they will be compared alone and awarded seeds
based on the priority criteria procedure listed above.
----- b. If three or more individuals are tied on points they will be compared alone and awarded seeds first using returning state place and then best overall percentage record if a tie is not broken by returning state place.
----- c. If three or more individuals remain tied the seeding committee shall vote on the order of seeds. In case of a tie vote, the seeds are determined by a coin toss or draw of lots.
