Week 10: Ten Games To Watch This Week
Joshua J Grine

Several programs will start district play this week and continue to track the top games this season.

Pack The Gym Game: No. 19 Robertson at Mora (Tuesday)
The Robertson Cardinals are one of the best teams in 4A, Mora is the best team in 2A. This one is a scary game for Robertson as they are the favorite, ranked in the Big School Division Top-25 and Mora is from small school division basketball. No. 19 Robertson is coming off a huge emotional week with big wins over Top 4A programs Silver, Portales and St. Mike's can they continue this train ride?

Road Opportunity: No. 14 Albuquerque at No. 16 Atrisco Heritage Academy (Tuesday)
The No. 14 Albuquerque has been slumping lately and at 7-7 they could use this road game to start district to get back on track for the once number one ranked team. The No. 16 Atrisco Heritage Academy (11-5) have made believers after the slow start and this is the chance to solidify themselves as a Top-8 seed.

Bubble Action: Deming at No. 24 Las Cruces (Tuesday)
The No. 24 Las Cruces Bulldawgs (9-8) are ranked for the first time since week three after a sweep in the Albuquerque metro area over Sandia and La Cueva in what are head-to-head bubble games as well. Deming is .500 at (9-9) and if they want to make any case for the state tournament their opportunities are slim, this game is that chance.

Scary Game: No. 2 Onate at No. 12 Gadsden (Tuesday)
We proclaimed that No. 2 Onate (15-3) is in a different tier with No. 1 Cleveland. Well, tonight is one of the last chances the Knights could lose, on the road at No. 12 Gadsden (11-6) the next best team in this district. Gadsden is coming off a solid week with a win over Valley, ranked 5 last week and a close game with Cibola makes this one a scary game for Onate.

Upset Alert - Game of the Night: No. 3 Cibola at No. 22 Volcano Vista (Tuesday)
The No. 3 Cibola Cougars are coming off a close call to No. 12 Gadsden. No. 22 Volcano Vista earned a win over a ranked Hobbs team last week. To make it that much more excited is that its a rivalry game. You can be sure to have a well attended, energy filled game.

Grine Picks For Tuesday

Mora over Robertson
Atrisco over Albuquerque
Cibola over Volcano Vista
Onate over Gadsden
Las Cruces over Deming

Keep An Eye On These Marquee Games

Centennial at Los Lunas
Rio Rancho at Santa Fe
Hobbs at Roswell

Mr. Basketball Candidates For Tuesday To Watch Out For

Gabe Bump, Albuquerque - Bump has lost some steam with limited info on him and the fact the Bulldogs are slumping. Here is the chance to jump back in the conversation.

Johnny McCants, Onate - He puts up consistently big numbers and sometimes it goes under the radar because he continues to play well. Here is a chance to put him the conversation of top 3 finalist. Daniel Amador of Roswell is up there, McCants to engrave himself there as well.

David Cormier, Volcano Vista - We don't hear much about him, until recently, and if they get another upset win here then we can place him back into consideration. Averaging around a double-double the junior has the chance to make noise.
