Week 12 What To Watch: Weekend Predictions
Joshua J Grine

Here we go folks another weekend and another list of games that we give our predictions on.

Friday Predictions

Eldorado (5-15) at Sandia (9-8), Fri., 7pm: Not truly the highlight game that you expect but more of a trap game as the Eagles are an upset in the waiting. Game is similar to the one against Hobbs as Sandia is in the hunt for a Top-8 seed.. Eldorado has the big to disrupt Sandia to an extent as Wroten has been dominating the District.

Prediction: Eldorado 51, Sandia 50

Farmington (18-3) at Miyamura (8-13), Fri., 7pm: The Scorpions are playing extremely well and in position to argue for a 3 or 4 seed in the state tournament if they keep this hot streak going. Miyamura is going to have to put up points or limit Farmington from running away with it early. Stating that Miyamura isn't known for putting up points and Farmington will put up points if you allow them too.

Prediction: Farmington 60, Miaymura 48

Sandia Prep (10-11) at Santa Fe Indian (10-11), Fri, 7pm: We started to take notice of the Sundevils before they ran into the Huskies last week. This game serves as a bracket watch game as both teams could sneak into the top-8. Prep puts up about 53 points per game with Santa Fe Indian around 63 but Santa Fe Indian doesn't completely dominate at home so it will be a tail of strengths Prep Gaddis are Santa Fe living from the three (not dying).

Prediction: Santa Fe Indian 66, Sandia Prep 61

West Las Vegas (16-4) at Robertson (17-3), Fri, 7pm: The battle of Las Vegas will be at it's best this season as both are ranked in the Top-5 of 4A basketball. Both teams have some top players but the Dons at 74 a game on the numbers wise to be the better offensively. However, the Robertson Cardinals put up points against better competition. They are coming off a loss to Pojoaque and might be the scarier of two teams tonight. However, I see West, the team who has been in these big games, to beat Robertson who got their first taste of adversity against Pojoaque on Tuesday.

Prediction: West Las Vegas 81, Robertson 77

Hobbs (12-7) at Carlsbad (16-6), Fri, 7pm: The Hobbs Eagles and Carlsbad Cavemen are the front runners in the SE corner. Both teams like to play at the basket but will put pressure on ball handlers (we know Hobbs presses) but the Cavemen also place good man pressure in the full court.

Prediction: Carlsbad 71, Hobbs 63

Sandia (9-8) at Espanola Valley (14-7), Sat, 7pm: A non-district 6A/5A clash. Sandia will look to pound it inside but don't think AZ Salazar will back down to the challenge. Espanola Valley seems to be one of those programs that plays UP to the challenge, so this could be a tough game for 6A Sandia.

Prediction: Sandia 66, Espanola 62

Los Lunas (13-8) at Centennial (15-5), Sat., 2pm: Round two of this top 5A game in the state of New Mexico. The last meeting a 55-51 finish played into the favor of the Tigers who prefer to keep the scores low. Centennial at home, with players starting to come into their own will look to push the tempo more on their home court.

Prediction: Centennial 61, Los Lunas 49
