5A BASKETBALL (12/9)

No. 1 Cleveland Storm (2-0): Went 2-0 last week with road wins over Albuquerque (79-60) and Clovis (60-59).

No. 2 Las Cruces Bulldawgs (3-0): Went 2-0 last week with wins over Sandia (66-42) and on the road at El Paso-Coronado (60-59).

No. 3 Santa Fe Demons (3-0): Went 3-0 last week with wins over Los Alamos (62-25), Goddard (73-48), and Capital (48-45, OT). The won the Santa Fe Tournament over the weekend.

No. 4 Onate Knights (5-0): The Knights went 3-0 last week with wins over El Paso-Franklin (58-50), Manzano (55-41), and Sandia (67-34).

No. 5 Volcano Vista Hawks (3-0): The Hawks went 3-0 last week with wins over La Cueva (63-50), Hope Christian (80-66), and Valley (68-54).

No. 6 Carlsbad Cavemen (4-0): The Cavemen came out hot with a 4-0 start and City of Champions-Championship. Wins over El Paso-Americas (59-51), Los Lunas (69-53), Artesia (47-36), and Hobbs (57-49).

No. 7 West Mesa Mustangs (2-1): The Mustangs opened the season with wins over Rio Grande (68-62) and Atrisco Heritage (61-49) but fell to Bernalillo (50-48).

No. 8 Atrisco Heritage Jaguars (2-1): The defending state champs fall from their week one top ranking with a 2-1 week. The Jaguars beat Valencia (56-48) and Hope Christian (60-53) but fell to West Mesa (61-49).

No. 9 Eldorado Eagles (3-0): The Eagles went 3-0 with wins over Sandia (60-51), Centennial (60-47), and Mayfield (60-34).

No. 10 Capital Jaguars (3-1): The Jaguars went 3-1 last week with wins over Santa Fe Indian (79-31), Taos (48-47), Alamogordo (56-39), but fell to Santa Fe (48-45 OT).

No. 11 Gadsden Panthers (3-1): The Panthers came out strong with an overtime win over Hobbs (82-80 OT). At the Cathedral Tournament the went 2-1 with a 5th place finish beating El Paso-Patterson Institute (45-37) and El Paso-Faith Christian (46-40). They fell in the first round to El Paso-Horizon (51-47).

No. 12 Hobbs Eagles (3-3): The Eagles went 2-2 last week with a runner up showing in Artesia. The Eagles fell to Gadsden (82-80 OT) and in the Championship to Carlsbad (57-49). They beat Rio Rancho (86-70) and Deming (73-51).

No. 13 Rio Rancho Rams (2-1): The Rams went 2-1 last week in Artesia with wins over Roswell (59-57) and Artesia (56-46); fell to Hobbs (86-70).

No. 14 Clovis Wildcats (1-1): The Wildcats dropped their home opener to Cleveland (60-59) but won on the road the next day at La Cueva (63-62).

No. 15 La Cueva Bears (1-2): The Bears have dropped in the rankings but three top games against Volcano Vista (L, 63-50), Highland (W, 63-51), and loss to Clovis (63-62).

No. 16 Manzano Monarchs (1-1). The Monarchs start the season 1-1 with a loss to Onate after an opening season win over St. Pius X
