Melrose (5-0, Streak: 5W)
Melrose faced tough challenges this week but managed to stay undefeated. A narrow 56-54 escape against 3A New Mexico Military Institute on Saturday showed their grit, while a convincing 59-34 win over 3A Ruidoso earlier in the week highlighted their versatility. The Buffaloes are proving they can win in different ways and remain a team to watch.
Cliff (7-1, Streak: 7W)
The Cowboys extended their winning streak to seven games after an opening-game loss to 3A Cobre. They dominated a tournament this week, defeating Carrizozo 85-27, Mountainair 54-28, and Cloudcroft 65-45 in the championship. With a balanced attack and consistent performances, Cliff is solidifying itself as a 1A contender.
Maxwell (6-1, Streak: 4W)
Maxwell delivered a perfect 3-0 week with wins over Wagon Mound (96-33), Clayton (51-50), and Cimarron (68-64). The narrow victories over Clayton and Cimarron highlight the Bears' ability to win close games under pressure, a valuable trait as they progress through the season. Are they a Final Four contender?
Magdalena (5-1, Streak: 2W)
The Steers rebounded from their Week 2 loss with two strong performances this week. A 70-23 rout over Alamo Navajo set the tone, and they followed it up with a signature win over 3A Hot Springs, 51-44. Magdalena’s defensive effort has been their calling card, and they remain a top contender in Class 1A.
Fort Sumner/House (5-1, Streak: 2W)
After suffering their first loss in Week 2, Fort Sumner/House bounced back with a perfect 3-0 week. Wins over Capitan, Escalante, and Newcomb showcased their resilience and depth. Their scoring output of 458 points this season shows they are a well-rounded and dangerous team.
Gateway Christian (4-2, Streak: 2W)
Gateway Christian had a mixed week, going 2-1 with wins over Capitan and Quemado but falling short to 2A Escalante 54-47. They are still finding consistency but have shown flashes of potential that could make them a tough opponent moving forward.
Roy/Mosquero (3-2, Streak: 1L)
Roy/Mosquero had an up-and-down week, splitting their two games. A 55-46 loss to Cimarron was a setback, also had a 66-45 win over Spring, but they continue to compete well in a tough schedule.

Cimarron earned key wins over Des Moines (46-45) and Roy/Mosquero (55-46) this week before dropping a hard-fought classification game to Maxwell, 68-64. Their ability to stay competitive against strong opponents bodes well for their postseason aspirations.
