Henderson: June 26th Recruiting Notebook, 10 D1 Offers

Recruiting for high school football prospects in New Mexico this summer has been incredible to say the least. Over the years we've had a few guys pull offers during the spring and summer, but nothing like we've seen this year. We have to rewind all the way to 2011, which was the last time New Mexico had 10 Prospects Sign D1, we've already matched that number offer wise and it's only June.

The Class of 2011 featured Notre Dame Commit Matthew Hegarty out of Aztec, Texas Tech Commit Ronnie Daniels out of La Cueva, Michigan State Commit Matthew Rammando out of Mayfield, and Colorado Commit Tyler McCulloch out of Eldorado. Monster year right? We'll this year is catching up and it starting with Los Lunas Running Back O'maury Samuels committing to Michigan. You can say Samuels heading to Michigan is the biggest New Mexico commitment since Eldorado's Zach Gentry committing to Michigan in 2015.

Two additional prospects have committed already, 6-foot-6, 280 pound offensive tackle Dylan Weaver out of Piedra Vista committed to Texas Tech and 6-foot-2, 225 pound Matthew Young out of Onate committed to New Mexico State.

That leaves 7 in-state prospects (Scroll down to see the complete list of prospects that have D1 Offers) that have D1 offers that are still uncommitted. The next few months are going to be fun recruiting wise to say the least, watching these prospects make their college decision.

This Past Week

This past week was 8 in-state prospects received offers. Kent State offered Mayfield Running Back Isaac Vance. Vance also holds an offer from the New Mexico State Aggies.

"It's a huge blessing. I am originally from that area (Ohio) and having the possible opportunity to head back home is very exciting. I have been in contact with multiple coaches on the staff, but Coach Needham (Defensive coordinator) is the one who officially offered me the scholarship," said Vance.

The 5-foot-8, 160 pound back who is also hearing from CAL and Texas Tech ran for 2,067 yards and 32 touchdowns as a junior breaking 7 school records in just 11 games.

New Mexico State Offered 4 in-state prospects during their camp this weekend. Volcano Vista Receiver David Cormier who also has an offer from New Mexico and interest from Wake Forest picked up an offer from the Aggies. "I like the staff, good coaching staff, but I have not been to Las Cruces enough to know that much about it. I worked with Coach Martin, Coach Cory, and Coach McKeethan this weekend as well as Coach Spiff." Cormier is 6-foot-3, 207 pounds and caught for 977-yards last year with 9 touchdowns.

The Aggies also offered Los Lunas Linebacker Trevor Brohard. The 6-foot-4, 210 pound prospect now holds offers from New Mexico State, Western Colorado, and New Mexico Highlands. Los Lunas will now enter the 2016 football season with two D1 prospects, no other 5A program can say that to open the season.

Mayfield Quarterback Torry Locklin out of the Class of 2018 was offered by the Aggies as well as Mayfield Receiver Gaven Swinson. Locklin played quarterback for the Trojans late in the year when starter Joe Ray Valencia went down with an injury. During the first round of the New Mexico State Football Tournament last year, Locklin threw for 169-yards and two touchdowns against Atrisco Hertiage.

During the Quarterfinals against Clovis in the he ran for 95-yards and two more touchdowns in route to the Trojan's 21-3 victory over the Wildcats. Swinson at 6-foot-4, 210 pound receiver is being recruited by Texas Tech and also Oklahoma. Last year Gaven caught for 1,300-yards and scored 11 touchdowns. This summer he's been clocked running a 4.5 40-time. Mayfield will enter the 2016 season with 3 D1 prospects, most out of any other Class 6A Program.

Rio Rancho Running Back Josh Foley picked up yet another offer this week from CSU Pueblo. The 5-foot-11, 195 pound back now holds offers from New Mexico Highlands, Eastern New Mexico, Western New Mexico, and CSU Pueblo.

Jacob Barnhill out of Sandia High School was offered by Adams State and has turned plenty of heads this summer on the recruiting trail.
