Your Thoughts: No. 1 Cleveland has to go on the road

What is the point of seeding if No. 1 Cleveland has to head to Mayfield in the semifinals?

I Love it, you have to go into a hostile environment and prove you are the best against one of the hottest teams in 6A right now. Not to mention some bad blood between the two. This game is going to be a physical game

The is the best match up taking place next week and some are going to say it's the state championship being played in the semifinals. However, I think the higher seed should host. You bust your butt, go undefeated, win a district title, hosting a game of this magnitude matters from every angle. Cleveland is a 7 to 10 point favorite at Home, I bet a ton or people are going to vote for Mayfield to win when I post the poll on Monday.

Totally understand how this might not be the best method. However, how do you "correct" the situation where teams "own" the return visit under this very old system. Somehow there has to be some sort of payoff. Of course this discussion is going to lead to folks wanting everything played in Albuquerque no matter who is playing so that it is "fair." Of course.

As everyone here points out, the seeding committee often gets the seeds wrong (just last night people were crowing about that.)

So how can we trust a faulty seeding system to give a team home field through the entire playoffs? Had that been the case when Valley was seeded No. 1, imagine the fallout.

Trading games based on playoff history keeps high school from becoming more politicized than it already is. Look at how the College Playoff has turned CFB even more into minor league pro sports.

We see how politics played into the realignment for the next two seasons and broke up the southeast district. Do we really want that politics creeping in and taking over the seeding process for football too?

I may be in the minority but I like being the road team in the play-offs. You know where your kids are, you control the pregame environment, you have less distractions from friends-family-girlfriends-etc. I think it benefits Cleveland to have to go to Las Cruces.
I can't agree with that when Artesia goes on the road friend family and girlfriends also go more so at playoff time.

They may go on the road but from the time those kids get on the bus they are in a football environment. You don't have a kid distracted by the thought of getting a little side action just before heading to field house.

If you are truly the best team you will prove it on the field.
Cruces was a #2 seed in 2012 and had to travel to Eldorado an 11 seed on a Sat for semis then turn around and had to travel to. Sandia a 4 seed for a Friday night State Championship game.

The current system does minimize the "seed" a team gets. So it makes the seeding less important once the Quarterfinals are survived.

The system acts almost as a buffer against a potentially poor seeding job since the seeds no longer determine home field advantage. And if you get in the playoffs enough, it all evens out in the wash.

This year nobody can dispute that Cleveland and Eldorado are legit at #1 and #2. But some years there was some dispute.

Honestly, they've had plenty of time to change it if they wanted too. It's been widely debated, mainly by lower seeded teams fans when hitting the road. The board of directors clearly likes the system or they'd of changed it. This means the schools are happy with the system while the fans seem to disagree. I don't think I've ever heard a coach openly complain about it. In fact, they don't seem to mind hitting the road in my experience.

The football Gods Shined a light on Las Cruces. Wow what a weekend of football after a belly full of Turkey

Mayfield vs Cleveland
Centennial vs Moriarty
Hobbs/ Eldorado vs Las Cruces

NMSU home game.

Might just have to stroll on down south.

Great opportunity for the Cleveland kids to experience the awesome Las Cruces high school football environment. Like others have said, if you are truly the best then go prove it no matter where they schedule it. Should be a good matchup in a great environment!
