Week 6 Rewind: Top Teams From Week 6

As the New Mexico high school baseball season powers through its sixth week, several teams across the state made headlines with statement wins and tournament titles. From a resurgence in 5A to dominant performances in 4A and a streaking contender in 3A, here are the biggest winners from Week Six.

5A Baseball
Perfect Storm: Cleveland Storm Go 3-0, Win Sal Puentes Invite

What a difference a week makes. After slipping in the rankings and suffering a three-game losing streak during Week Five, the Cleveland Storm bounced back in dominant fashion to become the biggest riser of the week.

Cleveland (11-5) stormed through the Sal Puentes Invitational at Rio Rancho High School, going 3-0 with a trio of impressive victories. They opened with a 7-1 win over No. 1-ranked 4A Artesia, followed it up with a thrilling 4-3 victory over No. 1-ranked 5A La Cueva, and capped off the weekend by beating Carlsbad 7-4 in the championship game.

The Storm now carry major momentum into the start of district play on Tuesday when they face off against Cibola.

4A Baseball
Huskies Howl: Hope Christian Claims Moriarty Tournament Title

Hope Christian (10-4) made a loud statement in Week Six, going 3-0 to win the Moriarty Tournament. The Huskies capped off their championship run with a 3-0 win over Belen behind a dominant pitching performance from senior Jacob Gergen.

Gergen (2025) was untouchable, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while facing 21 batters and allowing no runs. The win highlighted the Huskies’ growing momentum as they push towards district slate of games.

3A Baseball
Trending Timberwolves: East Mountain on the Rise

Look out, 3A — the East Mountain Timberwolves (8-5) are heating up. Winners of six straight, East Mountain went 2-0 in Week Six with an 8-2 win over St. Michael’s and a 9-8 thriller over Albuquerque High on Saturday.

Senior Rylen Radosevich and junior Charles Birdwell powered the offense. Radosevich tallied 4 RBIs, 2 hits, a double, and a triple, while Birdwell added a home run, 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. With their recent form, the Timberwolves are quickly emerging as a serious contender for the 3A title.

Played briefly at Cibola (older brother to Josiah Wilson-Bosque) has entered the transfer portal. Played in 4 games for Washington State. Four years of eligibility left.
