Week 10: Rapid Fire Friday
Today, we look at the games happening around the state of New Mexico in Week 10.
Game of the Week: No. 3 Las Cruces (7-1) vs No. 5 Onate (6-2): The District title is on the line, this might be the biggest game in terms of importance in Las Cruces this season.
Upset Watch of the Week: Santa Teresa (2-6) vs No. 23 Alamogordo (4-4): Maybe a stretch here, most people like Mayfield-Hobbs in this section but I'm hyping the Dozal diesel (Santa Teresa running back Dominick Dozal has rushed for over 1,200-yards)
Coaching match up to Watch: Chris White, Goddard vs Rex Henderson, Artesia: Two first year head coaches for two of the best football programs in 5A football. With the district title on the line we have some hype.
X Factor of the Week: Matt Chavez, Miyamura. The Patriots have a chance to move an inch closer to a District championship, that could possibly get them a home game in the playoffs. Chavez, has passed for 1,605-yards and rushed for 675-rushing yards.
Under the Radar Game of the Week: Texico (2-5) vs Tucumcari (1-7). Two programs that might have the most deceiving record - maybe not - but they are threat in the playoffs.
Under Hyped Game: No. 14 Eldorado (4-4) vs No. 11 La Cueva (5-3). Two solid QB's in this game and two teams that still have playoff hopes alive, Eldorado could use this win more as a 4-5 record might start to hurt when they argue for a slot.
Close call Game: Dexter (8-1) vs Capitan (7-1). The small school game of the week happens here with Dexter and Capitan. This could be the finish we all wait for at 9:45pm on Friday night.
Shootout Game: No. 21 Hatch Valley (7-1) vs Cobre (4-4): Both could potentially put up points, Hatch has been known to pour them on. Cobre looks to be the upset story of the night.
Rivalry Game To Watch: Escalante (9-0) vs Fort Sumner (9-0): Yes, maybe not the history as other rivalry games. However, these two are a combined 18-0 along with both teams playing for the 2A State Championship last season, an Escalante win 28-20. A shootout, a close call game a game to watch.
NMPreps Fan Game To Watch: Hondo Valley at Lake Arthur (). Another rivalry game to watch could be the Hondo at Lake Arthur 6-man quarterfinal game tonight. These two teams have played each other in the playoffs 6 of the last 7 years I believe. Always a great game.
