Playoffs, Standings, & More

5A BASEBALL - DISTRICT I

1. Rio Rancho (16-1 overall)
2. Cibola (8-4 overall)
3. Volcano Vista (9-5 overall)
4. Cleveland (9-7 overall)
5. Atrisco Heritage (3-11 overall)

Scoop: 16 teams advance to the playoffs in 5A and 4A baseball. This district should have four of the five represent the district come state tournament time. They are also favorites to win the opening round - pending their match up.

Locks: Rio Rancho
IN: Cibola, Volcano Vista, Cleveland

5A BASEBALL - DISTRICT II

1. Farmington (12-1 overall)
2. La Cueva (10-1 overall)
3. West Mesa (8-4 overall)
4. Eldorado (5-3 overall)
5. Sandia (7-5 overall)
6. Piedra Vista (8-7 overall)

Scoop: Plenty of left to play-out in this district and many unknowns. The known at this point is La Cueva who is the favorite to win the district and currently ranked #2 in the NMPreps Power-12 rankings. 2-6 slots are up in the air as of this morning.

Lock: La Cueva
Work Left to Do: Farmington, West Mesa, Eldorado, Sandia, Piedra Vista
Prediction: Eldorado, Sandia, Farmington, West Mesa, Piedra Vista.

5A BASEBALL - DISTRICT III

1. Organ Mountain (10-1 overall, 3-0 district)
2. Centennial (5-6 overall, 3-0 district)
3. Mayfield (8-6 overall, 4-2 district)
4. Las Cruces (8-4 overall, 3-3 district)
5. Alamogordo (6-9 overall, 3-4 district)
6. Gadsden (5-9 overall, 2-4 district)
7. Deming (4-11 overall, 1-6 district)

Scoop: This district could get four teams into the state tournament but three is the number we could will go with as of today. Organ Mountain looks to be the favorite to win the district.

Lock: Organ Mountain
Work: Centennial, Las Cruces
Need More: Alamogordo, Mayfield

5A BASEBALL - DISTRICT IV

1. Hobbs (11-2 overall)
2. Carlsbad (13-3 overall)
3. Clovis (5-6 overall)
4. Roswell (3-6 overall)

Scoop: Hobbs and Carlsbad will represent the district at the state tournament. They are likely to split come district play but will have a spot in the 16-team bracket.

Locks: Hobbs, Carlsbad

5A BASEBALL - DISTRICT V

1. Rio Grande (7-4 overall)
2. Los Lunas (8-5 overall)
3. Capital (7-7 overall)
4. Santa Fe (7-8 overall)
5. Manzano (5-7 overall)
6. Albuquerque (1-10-1 overall)

Scoop: Rio Grande has some quality wins and for a school that has struggled in the other two major boys programs (football and basketball) it is refreshing to see them as a favorite to win a district. Los Lunas is a dark horse to win a playoff game and could become a match-up nightmare for a playoff team.

Locks: Rio Grande, Los Lunas
Work: Capital, Santa Fe, Manzano

5A STATE TOURNAMENT (NON-CRITERA)

NMPreps take if the state tournament was sorted out by a committee and not the criteria. We also have a rule of no district vs district in the first round. This is a twist as we rank them 1 to 16 based on favorite to win the state tournament. Disagree? Post your 1-16 (and we hope you disagree).

1. Rio Rancho vs 16. Alamogordo
2. La Cueva vs 15. Las Cruces
3. Hobbs vs. 14. Los Lunas
4. Cleveland vs 13. Sandia
5. Carlsbad vs 12. Cibola
6. Organ Mountain vs 11. Farmington
7. Volcano Vista vs 10. Centennial
8. Rio Grande vs 9. Eldorado

Next Team: (17) West Mesa

Four for Four: 4 Hot Teams After Four Weeks

5A BASEBALL

Rio Rancho (9-1 overall):
The Rams started their season in Texas taking on the likes of Pebble Hills, Horizon, Eastlake, Coronado and dropped their only game to Americas. They moved along against New Mexico teams and came out with an 8-7 win over Hobbs.

Carlsbad (8-2 overall): Another team that will be there late this post season is the Cavemen who have an 8-2 record overall but 6-0 vs New Mexico teams and have moved along smoothly against them winning 50-5 during those six games.

4A BASEBALL

St. Pius X (6-1 overall):
After dropping the first game of the season to a top-ranked La Cueva Bears team, the Sartans have won 6-straight including an extra inning win over Albuquerque Academy.

Albuquerque Academy (8-1 overall): We've mentioned their one loss of the season but the Chargers and Sartans are favorites to meet again in May for the final game. Outside of that one 5-4 loss in extras to SPX the Chargers have 96 runs to 10 in the other 8-games.
