FRIDAY NIGHT | RECAP
Lovington, West Las Vegas, and Cleveland are the real deal: Yes, Lovington (No. 1 4A) beat an unranked team by 49-points but this team looks improved from last season, yes improved as the top ranked team in the class. West Las Vegas (No. 2 3A) moved smoothly against Moriarty by reports. Cleveland (No. 3 6A) sent a message as the third ranked Storm thumped Onate by halftime, 51-0.
Goddard and Carlsbad are back: Whoa Grine way to early to make that statement. Well, maybe but the Rockets which finished the 2017 under .500 easily took out St. Pius X at home on Friday night. They have some must-know prospects. Carlsbad finally got Artesia off their back and won for the first time in five tries. Tate Collins (CHS RB) is the guy to keep an eye on.
Other Risers - Aztec, Hope Christian, and Dexter: Aztec rolled Miyamura, as they likely should have as both are in different rotations right now. Hope Christian went on the road and earned an overtime win over Portales in a big resume win. Dexter making me, several, and others eat their words with a big come from behind win scoring 21 unanswered against Santa Rosa (21-14). Jarren Amaro, Dexter played well.

THURSDAY NIGHT | RECAP
Highland-Rio Grande: Not to sure how to take this game. Rio Grande jumped out to the early lead, the opening score had us on the alert but eventually the losing streak extended to 38. Does HC Dennis Minidis primed for a promising year to end the streak or will Highland be one of the teams that shouldn't be the judgment of the Ravens. Maybe Highland and Rio will both be okay this season. We will likely have to wait and see for both.
Cibola-Sandia: We knew it would be close and we had a game prediction of 27-20 in favor of Cibola(yes humble brag on almost calling it). Anyway I think both teams are improved this season but a couple things stood out from the film and that being Cibola tossing it and their DL. Sandia has Joseph, we knew he'd be darn good after seeing him this summer, but will need to be effective on the pass. I like both doing well this season and fun opener.
Eunice-Hobbs (JV): Eunice is Eunice and all of their studs did exactly what they did the entire season in 2017. Caperton, Santa Cruz, Sosa, and Stevens are names we know and they all hit the end zone. Avante Stevens could get the call as PTPer of the night.

Need more:
- Volcano Vista played well to open the game. Can they be a riser? Second half didn't go great but still stayed within striking distance.
- La Cueva. What should we think about the Bears? I think they'll still be fine with RB Williams.
- Arizona 2, New Mexico 1: Silver beat Round Valley (AZ) but Wingate fell to Window Rock (AZ) and Lordsburg fell to Willcox (AZ).
- Colorado 2, New Mexico 1: Bloomfield evened the score with a win over Montezuma-Cortez (CO) but Farmington struggled against Bayfield (CO). La Junta (CO) would get the win for Colorado with a 47-0 win over Raton.
- Idaho 1, New Mexico 0: All Minico (ID) in this one from the first punt returned for a 65 yard-ish TD.
