Talk District Realignments

All hypothetical. That's what make the life of a sports fan fun - if it be with a buddy in your garage or on a board like this.

We continue to go round and round with the perfect or ideal district alignment.

Is it time to break free from what has always been or what every other state does?

My idea is just an idea that has been talked about, discussed and never considered (maybe it has). Is it time for a "power classification"?

Top 20 teams by performance and history play in top division. With teams like Santa Fe, Rio Grande and maybe District 4-6A never going to win a state title maybe they could (should) play in the next 20 of big schools. Take the biggest 40 schools in terms of enrollment and place them in Division 1 and Division 2.

Two Regions Top 8 go to state

Division 1 - north
Cleveland
Rio Rancho
Volcano Vista
Cibola
Sandia
Eldorado
Manzano
Clovis
Los Lunas
St Pius

Division 2 - South
Las Cruces
Centennial
Mayfield
Onate
Hobbs
Artesia
Alamogordo
Goddard
Roswell
Carlsbad

7 game season, 3 out of Region games.

Division 2 North
Santa Fe
Rio Grande
Highland
West Mesa
Albuquerque
Capital
Atrisco
Valley
Robertson
Pieces Vista

Division 2 South
Lovington
Deming
Gadsden
Belen
Valencia
Grants
Hatch Valley
Moriarty

Note: id have to look at numbers for enrollment for biggest in terms of enrollment and possibly have division 3 football. Top 60 teams and place them in status division. Maybe keep some smaller enrollment teams in 2 or 3 only even if successful.

Either way just an idea

Questions As We Head Into Week 6

Today, we tackle five questions for the Top-25 teams leading into the weeks games.

1. Onate Offense Good Enough To Get Statement Win?

The No. 8 Onate Knights (3-2, 1-0) have two losses on their schedule, both of those coming against teams ranked in the Top-5. Both of those games also seen their offensive production well below their season average of 25.8 points per game. In both losses they score 14 (vs No. 2 Cleveland) and 10 (vs. No. 1 Rio Rancho). They take on 5th ranked Mayfield in week 6 and the question essentially is can the offense help out an impressive defensive that has carried them this season, even in games against Top-5 ranked teams. They held Cleveland to 24 points and "held" Rio Rancho to 38 points.

2. Will St. Pius Prove They Are Top-4 in 5A at Dark Horse Miyamura?

St. Pius X has been solid on ball sides of the ball. It is easy to pick them against an unknown like Miyamura in this contest. St. Pius is playing well on offense, scoring 43.4 points per game and allowing 56 total points on the season - 41 of those coming against Alamogordo. Why is Miyamura a scary opponent then. Well, if you remember most people were stunned when St. Pius X dropped a game to Moriarty - even though they went on to play for the semi-finals last season. Also, Miyamura comes in with a (4-0) record and outscoring their opponents 42 to 7. True colors will show for the Patriots in this game and the Sartans have to flex their muscles a bit.

3. Can Goddard's Athletes Outscore Alamogordo?

Goddard (2-3) is hanging on as the 24th ranked team in New Mexico. They have two players in Devin Quirez and Cameron Stevenson who have shown flashes of being a team to reckon with. However, they haven't answered the call when they face a Top-25 opponent, currently 0-3. Alamogordo is the real deal this season, with big wins under their belt. In wins Goddard has scored 57 points per game, against Top-25 opponents they averaged 29.6. Alamogordo has allowed opponents to score 20.25 this season.

4. Can Cibola Keep Albuquerque Under 20 points?

In 2015, all of their wins the Cougars held their opponents to under 20 points, minus Highland a win of 60-22. All of their losses their opponents scored over 20 points, outside one game a 14-6 loss to Clovis. This season they have four losses, all four losses their opponents have gone over 20 points. The lone win, last week, they held their first opponent under 20 points - a 17-14 win over Sandia. So the question is, will holding Albuquerque under 20 points guarantee a win. Albuquerque has two wins this season. In both the wins they scored 37 and 28 points. In the losses Albuquerque has scored 18 and 0.

Losing of a Dynasty!

Ok so I seen the 49ers lose to the Sorriest Team in the NFL on Sunday. Then follow it up by losing to the Sorriest team in the Division tonight! Gabbert is Horrible and Kelly isn't cutout for the NFL! If I owned the 49ers I wouldn't be trusting it with these 2 clowns.

The last 2 years have been horrible, I guarantee Balke is kicking hisself for getting rid of Harbaugh!!! Cut Gabbert, Fire Kelly & Balke! They need to go after Josh Daniels or John Gruden!

Our Defense needs to be reloaded and our wide receivers aren't even in the top 30 on any list as far as production!

How do you go from a Dominate Football Team to a Disater in 2 years? We are literally the worse team on anyone's schedule this year!

Do you keep the bleeding going to get the #1 pick?

Seeding prediction, Oct. 9 (boys)

Now two weeks from selection day. Again, this prediction is not based on current district standings - instead, it's how I think things will end up. Please feel free to add your own comments.

6A:

1. La Cueva
2. Albuquerque
3. Hobbs
4. Volcano Vista
5. Sandia
6. Gadsden
7. Valley
8. Cibola
9. Atrisco Heritage
10. Eldorado
11. Rio Rancho
12. Cleveland

Left out: Las Cruces, Clovis, Centennial. Valley could really shake things up by beating Albuquerque High and winning that district.

5A:
1. Academy
2. Roswell
3. Santa Teresa
4. Capital
5. Los Lunas
6. Chaparral
7. Los Alamos
8. St. Pius
9. Valencia
10. Farmington
11. Alamogordo
12. Goddard

Left out: Belen. The big variable here is the final district standings among SPX/LL/Valencia, and ST/Chapa. We will know a lot more a week from now. Alamo needs to beat Deming, or they could be in danger of missing state altogether.

Week 7: State Tournament Watch

6A
#1. Rio Rancho (Auto)
#2. Cleveland (At-Large)
#3. Las Cruces (Auto)
#4. Eldorado (Auto)

Top Four: All four receive a bye and for the most part go to District Champs with the exception of District 1-6A. Clovis and Eldorado square off this Friday, Eldorado the edge with the ranking of 7th - Clovis is 10th.

#5. Volcano Vista (At-Large)
#6. Clovis (At-Large)
#7. Onate (At-Large) UP
#8. Mayfield (At-Large) DOWN

Next Four: Volcano Vista is ranked 4th in the state right now but dropping two games in District play could drop them out of the Top-4, maybe it should but the Eldorado loss could linger if Eldorado is DC. Centennial-Mayfield play this weekend and could mix this up or possibly drop Mayfield one tier down.

#9. Centennial (At-Large)
#10. Manzano (At-Large) UP
#11. La Cueva (At-Large) UP
#12. West Mesa (Auto)

Centennial could play into the next tier. Piedra Vista loss to Manzano drop them from 10 to OUT this week. La Cueva quietly hanging around but need to beat Sandia and easily.

Bracket
#8 Mayfield vs #9 Centennial/Winner plays #1 Rio Rancho
#5 Volcano Vista vs #12 West Mesa/Winner plays #4 Eldorado
#7 Onate vs #10 Manzano/Winner plays #2 Cleveland
#6 Clovis vs #11 La Cueva/Winner plays #3 Las Cruces

VOTE/RANK HERE HOW YOU WOULD SEED THE STATE TOURNAMENT

5A

#1. Artesia (Auto)
#2. Los Lunas (Auto)
#3. Roswell (At-Large)
UP
#4. Alamogordo (Auto) DOWN

Top Four: I know people will point out that Alamogordo recently lost. However, the win over St. Pius helps along with being the most likely District 3-5A champion will help.

#5. St. Pius X (At-Large)
#6. Goddard (At-Large)
UP
#7. Belen (At-Large) DOWN
#8. Miyamura (Auto)

St. Pius and Goddard could switch slots with the Alamogordo factor - Goddard won at home, Pius lost on the road. Pius with the nod being a projected DRU, Goddard third in District play. Farmington-Miyamura are possible front runners for 1-5A. Belen at 7 seems high but they fall as a potential District third place finisher.

#9. Farmington (At-Large)
#10. Del Norte (Auto)
#11. Aztec (At-Large)
#12. Grants (At-Large)

There is a huge gap between top 7 and the final 5 spots. Farmington and Miyamura could play again in the state tournament. Del Norte, the front runner from 2-5A, finally earned a win this past week. Aztec and Grants seem the next next suitors with Capital staying on the radar for the 12-spot if they win out (or drop one to Del Norte).
