June 13th Recruiting Notebook

We kick off mid June with a big recruiting update on the Class of 2017. As you know many of the state’s top prospects having been attending camps across the country, getting their names out in front of college coaches, so far 14 prospects from 2017 have offers to play at the next level.
6-foot-6, 280 pound
Dylan Weaver out of Piedra Vista committed to Texas Tech last week being the third prospect from the Class of 2017 to pull the trigger commitment wise. Weaver held offers from San Diego State, New Mexico, and Georgia State before being Tech’s No. 7 commitment from 2017. “It’s obviously a big program and when I saw that Casey committed that left one spot open for the offensive line and I knew that if I didn’t commit to Tech it would be something I would wonder about and would likely regret later in life. The opportunity to play for a program like Texas Tech is huge,” said Weaver.
6-foot-1, 225 pound linebacker
Forest McKee out of Onate High School who has an offer from New Mexico State impressed at both UTEP and Texas Tech’s camps and also visited UNLV recently. All three schools are actively recruiting him, however still just the offer from State is on the table. McKee has a bench max of 385 pounds and was clocked at a 4.59 at the Red Raider’s Camp.
Also at the Texas Tech Camp was Mayfield Running Back
Isaac Vance who also holds an early offer from New Mexico State, but remains uncommitted at this point. Vance arguably is the top returning running back in Class 6A and scored over 20 touchdowns for the Trojans in 2015 as a junior.

Other prospects receiving recruiting interest from Mayfield include 6-foot-4, 210 pound
Gaven Swinson who impressed at an Oklahoma Camp in early June. "It went very good. I was picked top three out of the wide receivers at the camp. I'm expecting a call from the wide receivers coach today," Said Swinson Monday Night following the event. Swinson is hearing from quite a few schools, but no offer in just yet. "Texas tech came down to see me. I'm also talking to Air Force Academy and hearing from a few others."

Mayfield Defensive Linemen
Jalen Guerrero at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds is also being recruiting by UTEP, NMSU, and New Mexico.
A good handful of Rio Rancho Prospects also continue to generate recruiting interest. Last week Running Back
Josh Foley turned heads at Colorado’s Football Camp and checked in at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. Our sources tell us that Foley impressed the Colorado Coaches enough that they are going to be in contact moving forward. Foley also was approached by Northern Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, and CSU Pueblo during the weekend. Foley also holds offers from Highlands and Western New Mexico.

Offensive Linemen
Logan Hertz also out of Rio Rancho at 6-foot-6, 275 pounds recently picked up an offer from Montana and now has offers from: Western State Colorado, Colorado Mesa, and Eastern New Mexico and is also hearing from New Mexico, New Mexico State, Ft. Lewis, and NAU.

6-foot-5, 190 pound Athlete
Dakota Carrasco also out of Rio Rancho’s talented Class of 2017 has recently been contacted by the University of Pennsylvania. Carrasco who could play Quarterback, Receiver, or Defensive Back for the Rams this year also has offers from Colorado Mesa, Eastern New Mexico, and is also hearing from New Mexico State, Arizona, and West Texas A&M.

St. Michael’s
Xavier Vigil is likely the top overall player returning in Class 4A and recently he showed out at both UTEP’s and Texas Tech’s camp checking in at 6-foot-0, 220 pounds, running a 4.6 40-time and a 29 inch vertical. Schools now recruiting him include: Texas Tech, UTEP, New Mexico State, New Mexico, CSU, and for wrestling he is hearing from NAVY, Brown, Old Dominion, Iowa State, ASU, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

Derek Loidolt. Each started during the 2015 season for the Bears: Woisin at backer, Campbell at quarterback, and Loidolt at linebacker.

Clovis Running Back
Micah Gray has been busy hitting camps as well. The 5-foot-11, 175 pound back who ran for 1,100-yards and scored 13 touchdowns last year is hearing from UTEP, Northern Arizona, and Rice. Gray is ranked by NMPreps.com as one of the top running backs in New Mexico and is regarded as one of the top play makers in the Class of 2017.

Brett Money won the underclassmen field goal competition in Oregon last week. Held on the field of Autzen Stadium, Money won the competition nailing a 40-yarder in front of the entire camp. Money will also be headed to the FBU Top Gun Academy in South Carolina in hopes of becoming the next 9th grade All-American. He was also selected to compete in the Kohl’s Kicking National Scholarship Invite which will be held in Wisconsin during July.

Forgot to add update on Cleveland Athlete
Veto Virgin. Schools recruiting him:
Iowa State, University of South Florida, Utah State, Kansas, Harvard, Penn, North Carolina (Charlotte), Butler, Northern Arizona, Oxidental, Jamestown University, West Texas A&M, and for Track & Field ; University of Tennessee, Iowa State, Utah State, Arizona, Eastern New Mexico, Graceland University. Veto has been part of Championship teams in Football and Track in the 2015-2016 seasons and was a State Champion in the 300 Meter Hurdles, going undefeated the entire season.
Another Update to add
Onate Tight End
James Martin attended both the U of A, UTEP, and NAU Camps. He won the tight end heat at the NAU Camp and is in contact with both the UTEP and NAU Coaches. He also received a handwritten letter from Brown's TE Coach Decker to attend their camp this summer.
