The spring evaluation period begins on Friday. Between April 15 and May 31, each FBS program is allowed “168 evaluation days” as a staff. Each day an assistant coach is on the road recruiting counts as one evaluation day, so most coaches try to stop by as many high schools in one day as possible.

LAS CRUCES - Plans to name the playing field at the Field of Dreams in honor of legendary coach Jim Bradley have been sidelined for the time being.

In a presentation Tuesday to the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education, Superintendent Stan Rounds said the prospect presents a number of challenges, including securing funding for appropriate signage and concerns he’s heard from students and community members that it disproportionately favors a single school, have led him to explore other options.

Clay Patterson Named New Mexico Mr. Basketball

Each season the race comes down to the wire and this season had a race just as close. The award has some of the most popular names known with New Mexico High School basketball from Bryce Alford (La Cueva) record setting season in 2013 to one of the top state tournament performance as Rodney Coles led the Espanola Valley Sundevils to the 2011 state championship. This season it was another one of the state tournament performances that put icing on the cake as Clay Patterson took the 11-seed Rio Rancho Rams to it's second state title in school history.

Clay Patterson, becomes the second junior to take home the award joining the group with 2012 winner Cullen Neal of Eldorado High School. Patterson, was a constant scoring leader this season leading 6A with 20.5 points per game. His game expand throughout the court with 3.3 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.

Patterson said on winning the award, "Thank you, it's an amazing honor and I give all glory to God".

Highlighting the season for Patterson was several 20 plus point games with season highs of 27 (vs Albuquerque High), a 25 point and 6 assist night vs Highland. Patterson scored 549 points on the season, 86 assists and 47 steals on the year. He also made 52 three point shots on the season.

As mentioned Patterson led the Rio Rancho Rams to the 6A State Championship as an 11-seed, the highest seed to win a title. The Rams finished the season 19-12.

Patterson is being recruited by Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico.

Johnny McCants (Onate HS), Holt Shelley (Cliff) and John Paul Garica (Tucumcari HS). Johnny McCants of Onate High School was the runner-up this season after having double-double numbers on the season.

Miles has signed with Cochise JC Baseball. Very tough decision to make. Had lots of Football and Baseball JC offers on the table. He worked his tail off year around to get these opportunities. Not easy being a 2 sport athlete these days with all the specialization.

OK in Mansfield every strip center has a donut shop and they are all dang good. I go to Santa Fe and Albuquerque and there may be 4-5 donut shops total in both towns. We have 10 total. Why are donuts not popular in Northern NM
