USWNT vs China

This is gonna be a HUGE ratings getter.

I hope the quality of the game lives up to the hype....well there hasnt been much mainstream hype, but you get what I mean.

The US is missing two key midfielders (Rapinoe and Holiday) so how will they line up? THey should have enough fitness and depth to pull it off, but China isnt exactly gonna roll over. If the US gets an early goal, it will be a long day for China.

If China can frustrate the US and take them deep into the closing 15minutes, there might be a shot of an upset.

Busy Tuesday of Soccer

Three excellent games to enjoy on a Tuesday afternoon/evening"

UEFA U21 Championship: Portugal v Sweden
This is not the match up most predicted. Portugal has been pounding the competition. They demolished the German U21 team 5-1!!!! Everyone had the German kids pegged to win it all and keep the strong German tournament streak going.
Lots of great talent on the field, if you get a chance, find a stream for this game or check it out on ESPN3.

Copa America Semi-Final: Argentina v Paraguay
Chile locked up their spot in the final tonight (Monday). Whoever wins this game might really just be playing for 2nd place. Argentina has been winning by the narrowest of margins, but they are Argentina: Messi, Di Maria, Aguero, Mascherano, Otamendi.....they will hopefully start finding the back of the net in this game cuz they will need ALL the help to beat a defensive Paraguay and maybe Chile in their home stadium.

WWC Semi-Final: USA v Germany
The USA looked better vs China. They have proven me wrong each game...dont know if I should reverse curse them and actually pick them to win, or keep picking against them. Its an intriguing match up, the best defense (USA) vs the best offense (GER). They Germans had to work hard and survive the PK shoot out vs France. The US got to rest Rapinoe and Holiday so this will hopefully be a great nightcap to a loaded Tuesday of futbol.

Hendo's Top 10 Thoughts From The Weekend

1. Jaydon Silver

1700076.jpg

I was sitting with my family Sunday morning eating breakfast when I read that Jaydon Silver of Manzano High School was tragically killed Friday Night in a drive by shooting. (Teen Killed in Albuquerque Shooting - Via The Albuquerque Journal Here)

Heartbreaking, shocking, and a cold feeling swept over me knowing that this family will never get to see their son again. I had to excuse myself from the table to compose myself, I had just visited Manzano last Monday.

In exchanging text messages with Head Manzano Football Coach Chad Adcox, Silver who was 17 and playing receiver for Manzano was at practice last week, that made me feel even worse. This isn't about me, this is about a young person's life being taking way to soon and something that today seems like just another headline in the news.

"Jaydon was a very loved young man. He had the most infectious smile you have ever seen. He has been a wonderful young man n our football program for the past three years. He will be deeply missed by the Manzano family. RIP Jaydon," Commented Manzano Head Football Coach Chad Adcox on Sunday Night via text message.

The senseless violence is overwhelming, but what is the solution? Is it to pack up and move from Albuquerque? Is it to shoot back at a faceless thug, how can we just turn the cheek and do good after these continued instances of chaos?

To the Manzano Monarch Family and the Parents of Jaydon Silver,

I can't imagine the pain and suffering your heart bear not only his morning, but forever longer. My family and me personally offer prayers and are here for you even though we've never crossed paths directly. The smile on your son's face will last in my mind moving forward. Good people are thinking of you, praying for you, and are here for you today and always.

Let me know if there is anything I can do. My number is 505.577.5953

2. Ranking The Teams I've Seen

1. Cleveland - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
t’s obvious that this year’s Cleveland Storm team has giant potential. Of course saying it and doing it are two different things. Speaking with Head Coach Heath Ridenour on Tuesday, June 16th he knows just like everyone else that they have the horses to run the show, but they still haven’t won any games on their schedule. In-fact, Cleveland enters the 2015 season riding a two-game losing streak following an ugly 1st round playoff loss to district rival Cibola. I will say this: I strongly doubt there is a team in New Mexico that has better skill position players and linemen that this group. Their linemen remind me of Las Cruces’ 2012 team when the Dawgs had Rudy Guerra, Lane Cummings, Taylor Tisby, Jacob Banegas, and Oscar Guzman. This Cleveland Team has 3, maybe 4 D-1 prospects. Henry Hattis one of the best linemen in the west and Quarterback Gabe Ortega who was just offered by UNM. The other two are Marcus Williams a 6-foot-4 receiver and 6-foot-4 junior receiver Adam Cook.

2. Rio Rancho - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
Today, we kicked off the 2015 NMPreps.com High School Football Tour Powered by Tate Branch Auto Group at Rio Rancho High School. It was only right to start where the 2014 season ended. Last year the Rams finished 13-0 defeating Mayfield 33-31 in an epic state championship game. There is no way to spin it heading into 2015, Rio Rancho graduated a ton of talent. They must replace a quarterback who threw for 4,500-yards, a running back who had over 1,800 all-purpose yards, a receiver that caught for 1,300-yards, two linebackers that accounted for nearly 200 tackles, a defensive linemen that racked up 11.0 sacks, and defensive back that record 8 interceptions. All those guys are gone. “We had a great spring and we are really looking forward to seeing how these younger guys step in. We got some seniors that want to prove themselves and we’re excited for the challenge.” said Head Rio Rancho Football Coach David Howes.

3. Sandia - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
The Sandia Matadors have remained one of Albuquerque’s top high school football programs over the years under Head Football Coach Kevin Barker who is entering his 23rd year as a Head Football Coach (Sandia/Manzano). In the past 10-seasons, the Matadors have reached the playoffs 8 out of 10 times, reaching the finals in 2012. “Our seniors are pretty darn good and have led all the way through our spring and summer workouts. We’re led by Seniors Jimmy Gallegos, Dominic Baca, Jeremiah Loya, and Isaiah Lowery. We return 11 starters overall and we’re excited about the 2015 season,” said Head Sandia Football Coach Kevin Barker.

4. Volcano Vista - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
Last year Volcano Vista missed the 2014 New Mexico High School Football Playoffs going 3-7 on the year after an impressive opening season 18-14 victory over Sandia. Volcano Vista then lost their first 4 out of 5 games, and finally finished 1-3 in district with their only victory coming against Santa Fe. Last year was last year and this year is this year, so with that said, Volcano Vista has been waiting for this group to be seniors for a while now. These current seniors are the young guns that have been brought up in the program, a few players have seen more than two years on varsity. Head Coach Chad Wallin enters his 9th season as Head Coach making the playoffs three times since the 2008 season. Volcano Vista is big up-front, has some very good skill position players, and it would be an absolute shocker if this team misses the playoffs in 2015. “It's been a good summer to start, the attitude is a lot better and the kids are just working hard. It’s a very senior dominate group and that is where the leadership starts for us," said Head Volcano Vista Coach Chad Wallin.

5. Eldorado - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
An always formidable opponent from Albuquerque is Eldorado who has reached the playoffs 7 out of the last 9 seasons. 2014 was a special team, finishing the regular season 9-1 led by Michigan Blue Chip Recruit Quarterback Zach Gentry. While the Eagles graduate their quarterback, 4 out of their 5 linemen, and a handful of defensive players the Eagles once again should remain a top tier high school football team, just with some lesser known names returning for 2015. “I think when you have a program with tradition, kids want to win. These seniors want to win, just like last year’s seniors, and hopefully they continue their bond this year,” said Head Eldorado Football Coach Charlie Dotson entering his 8th year at the helm.

6. Manzano - Read Their Full Team Preview Here
The Manzano Monarchs have reached the big school classification playoffs in the last 6 of 7 seasons. Head Coach Chad Adcox has been with Manzano since 2003 and took over as Head Coach for Aaron Ocampo in 2012. Entering his 4th year as Head Coach at Manzano, Adcox has kept Manzano is the big school mix, but with declining numbers at Manzano getting past yearly bigs like Cleveland, Mayfield, and their district has been a continued struggle. In fact, since 2012 Manzano is 2-8 against district opponents. They graduate a good mix of linemen and skill guys, but their younger group coming up is very talented. “We got some new names like: Orlando Perez, Jordan Byrd, and Antonio Padilla, and skill wise overall I liked the way we competed at the UNM 7-On. It’s all about learning right now in the summer time, for right now I think we are where we need to be,” said Manzano Head Football Coach Chad Adcox.

3. God Bless America - 4th of July
1700077.jpg

I am a very proud American. We fly the United States of America Flag in front of our house every day. We do this out of respect for those that gave their life for our freedom's, we do this because we appreciate the fact that we can have opinions about: Religion, politics, etc., we do this because our family has been able to build a great life from hard work and dedication. We also do this because we are very proud of my brother in-law who has served in two tours oversees and just got promoted to an E-7 and because we're proud of my cousin who recently retired from the United States Navy. This is a great country, let's continue to respect one-another and continue to pray for those that cannot be here with their family during bbq's and birthdays.

10. Opening this up for a Monday Q and A - Post Below

....

Four Point Play

The Four Point Play is designed to have you disagree with me. Don’t be afraid to debate why you think I am wrong.

(Week of 6/22-26)

1. Hobbs is NOT number one (boy's hoops): Yup, call me out. We haven’t seen a team repeat as champs and 18 has to wait. Losing the big kid, Jones is hard to replace in New Mexico. He wasn’t overly dominant but he did make offenses alter what they do in the paint or near the rim. The X-factor was the PG in the title run and he is playing up north at Highlands. Replacing them is too difficult. Someone else wins in 2016.

2. Cibola is number one BUT lose title (girls): I said it two years in a row, Clovis will win no matter what but they didn't. Oh yeah and I said they would lose when they won during Danni’s sophomore year. So the favorite typically loses in March for 6A girls hoops. The true stories or Cinderella stories have happened plenty during girls state tournament runs. Lovington stories, Volcano Vista rise to prominence, and Los Lunas swag. So 2016 we will see a 3 or 4 seed win it all.

3. Alamogordo the dusty, dry, paradise (boys)?: Job opened yesterday as reported by the local newspaper. I’ve been to Alamo twice in my life and remember the heat and dust blowing. However…….. this job is the diamond in the rough. Someone will be able to win soon. Does a lower class coach get the call up? Does a veteran get it? Oh yeah has anyone mentioned Gilmore yet (sarcasm).

And-One

4. The draft is tonight and as I’ve mentioned I love the draft. I thnk this will be one of the deeper drafts and will produce some future all-starts. I like Mudiay, Kentucky bigs, Russell and the rest could help revive some franchises.
