Battle of #1's: Mesilla Valley wins wild one in Cliff

Great game today: Mesilla Valley at Cliff

Should be fun as both teams get after each other. Cliff is undefeated at 19-0 so they will be tough to beat in their own backyard. Mesilla Valley gets their big man back today, Big 'D' Dalton Rice, so they will be have their full line-up. These Cliff games are classic.

Criteria for Best Dunk

I submit one of Jeff Adler's dunks as 'Best Dunk' of the year (if I can get film I will). He had what I call an 'Oopsie' which is when you throw down a dunk from the baseline area (or side area of the rim) with one hand so forcefully that the net flops up into the rim like a fish on a line. It's a nice dunk because it rocks the rim and the net just dances. Anyway, I submit my criteria for determining best dunk:

1. It's a throw down with force (either one or two-handed)
2. The rim shakes
3. The net oopsies
4. You get the 'eye of the tiger' staredown on an opponent
5. Opponent tries to draw a charge but gets called for a blocking foul (bonus points if you jump over the defender and don't touch the defender)
6. You get to step over the opponent while they are on the ground
7. Other team calls a TO because of the moral devastation and confusion caused by the dunk
8. After the TO, you make the FT because of the blocking foul

Now that's a dunk.

OT: ABQ Economy Only 3.3 Times Larger Than Hobbs

Firstly, I am finally back...had numerous very distressing family situations to deal with. Happy to see the sun shine again.

In what has to be an amazing situation for this state...Hobbs is still the number 2 economy in the entire state as per the latest numbers just out setting all time records again. Keeping this in mind, as recently as 2010 the economic numbers for Albuquerque were that the Duke City was over ten times larger than the economy of Hobbs. The numbers just out show that the ABQ economy is now only 3.3 times larger. Factoring in that the GRT rate for Albuquerque is much higher than Hobbs then economic output is actually less than 3.3 times larger. Depending on what numbers you use, ABQ is from 12-14 times larger than Hobbs as far as population is concerned.

Construction projects in Hobbs are everywhere even in the challenged areas. There are over 30 million dollars of construction in South Hobbs which has not seen anything significant in decades except for the water reclamation plant. In all of Hobbs, two more apartment complexes just started which makes five large complexes under construction. The prolific increase in new homes and apartments will help out a ton as far as job vacancies are concerned.

However (there is always a however), there have been a small number of layoffs in the EnergyPlex oil industry but there are still hundreds of jobs still unfilled in other categories. There are varied oil price predictions that oil will return to the 100-200 dollar per barrel range. Which is great news for our state. Funny thing...every time the gas prices dropped I wanted to go throw up. hahahaha
