2014/2015 Class 6A Preview

Today we begin our 2014/2015 New Mexico High School Wrestling Season Coverage with what to watch at the Class 6A level of Wrestling.

2013/2014 Rewind
The Rio Rancho Rams won the Class 5A state wrestling title racking up a total of 199.0 team points, Rio grande took second with 191.0 points, and Volcano vista took 3rd with 183.0 points. In Class 4A Piedra Vista dominated racking up 323.5 points, the second place team was Belen with 178.5, and in Class 3A Bloomfield won the State Title with 203.0 points, Cobre and Robertson finished 2nd and 3rd.


2014/2015 Best of the Best

Rio Rancho's Miguel Barreras overcame a near season ending knee injury as a junior to win 17 matches. Outside of being one of the best receivers in New Mexico on the football field, Barreras is 61-7 over the last two-years winning back to back 152 titles. Also watch for Dylan Udero out of Las Cruces who is a combined 64-1 over the last two-years wrestling at 106 and 120 last year. At the heavyweight division, watch for James Romero out of Atrisco Heritage who went 33-0 last year as a junior.

2014/2015 Class 4A Preview

2013/2014 Rewind
Last year Bloomfield edged out Cobre for the Class 3A title winning with 203.0 points. Bloomfield returns a good amount of talent with Corin Nelson, Levi Whutley, and Jacob Spencer all returning. While Bloomfield is the preseason number 1 there are many teams in Class 4A that can give them a run.


2014/2015 Best of the Best

Class 4A loses one of the best ever in Kory Wyndham of St. Michael's High, but returns some high quality talent for this season. Pound for pound Rico Montoya out of Robertson went 37-0 last year at 132 pounds. JD Robinson out of Bloomfield went 38-6 at
138, and watch for Kenneth Yara out of Robertson who went 34-4 at 220 as just a junior.
