Scoop: Plenty of playoff opportunities this week. We also have a potential 5A state championship preview between Roswell and Artesia. Games in the 2-7 will affect the playoff bids in a big way. Keep an eye.

Zero Club: 10 Teams. Alamo Navajo (0-6), Chesterton Academy (0-5), Capitan (0-7), Navajo Prep (0-6), Pojoaque Valley (0-6), Gallup (0-7), Tucumcari (0-7), Del Norte (0-7), Chaparral (0-7), Manzano (0-7) --- Best chance at winning this week. Navajo Prep 44.1% chance at beating Zuni (1-6).

Keep an Eye: 6A South District. Carlsbad-Centennial and Hobbs-Alamogordo. Is it time for some shockers?

Game I'm Most Interested In: Well there is an important game to end the week on Saturday night that will dictate the bracket, I can't pick that one. Then there is the obvious pick taking place in the Bulldog Bowl, we all know that it's the 'best' game this week. My pick is Mayfield-Goddard. Hard hitting contest with either a 4/5 seed up for grabs. What is yours?

Poll: Most Likely to Upset in Week 9

Playoff Positioning: Belen (1-6) at Highland (5-1)-Thurs,, Cibola (6-1) at Rio Rancho (5-2), Dexter (3-4) at NMMI (4-4), Valencia (2-5) at SPX (1-6)-Sat.

This group is the biggest as we enter the week. We have teams close to each other in the NMPreps rankings and a win or loss could determine where the land in the final bracket release.

In-N-Out: Sandia (3-4) at Farmington (3-4).

Sandia could be on the official pop. A win here could keep hopes alive. This is an early radar game (close late). Farmington needs to avoid a let down, especially at home.

District Championship Type: Santa Teresa (3-4) at Deming (3-4)-Thurs., Roswell (6-1) at Artesia (5-2).

We don't have official district championship games but these could end up being the game that determines a DC and automatic bid to state.

Challengers: Hatch Valley (5-1) at Socorro (7-0), Hobbs (6-1) at Alamogordo (4-3)

Hatch Valley gets a shot at an undefeated and contender for the state championship in Socorro. Alamogordo caught our attention last week with a win over Las Cruces, can they do it again? Hobbs earned more believers and now they have to prove that they truly are a state contender.

Class Top-4 Level: Mayfield (4-3) at Goddard (5-2), Portales (6-1) at Albuquerque Academy (5-2), St. Mikes (6-1) at Raton (7-1)

5A, 4A, 3A in the order. Mayfield and Goddard still have a shot at the DC but projected to end in third and fourth in district play. The winner of this one could still snag a top-four seed. Portales and Academy in the same boat, Portales is our newly ranked #1 team in 4A. St. Mikes and Raton could determine the 4 and 5 seed in the state playoff.

The Santa Fe High renaissance is officially back at square one.

TEN NOTES FROM FRIDAY

• 2A: Unstoppable. The No. 1 Jal Panthers beat rival Eunice (No. 2) 50-0 on Friday night.
• 6A: No. 3 Centennial traveled to Hobbs to take on the No. 6 Eagles, escaping with a 27-20 win.
• 6A: Elliot Pasket-Bell passed for over 500-yards and 5-touchdowns as No. 4 Volcano Vista thumped No. 5 Cibola, 57-7. Volcano Vista is now (6-2, 1-1) on the season. Cibola falls to (6-1, 1-1).
• 6A: Alamogordo (No. 13) went into Las Cruces (No. 9) and behind a key interception, 2 FGs by Bradyen Money, and a Elijah Montoya (QB) touchdown the Tigers improve their playoff chances. They are now 4-2, 1-1 on the season. Las Cruces drops to 1-5, 0-2 on the year.
• 4A: Behind a three-headed monster in Aidan Granado (2023/RB), Adan Jacquez (2024/QB), and Mason Lockett (2023/RB) the Silver Colts (No. 3) jumped out early and often for a 45-6 win over No. 1 Bloomfield.
• 4A: No. 8 Moriarty improved to 5-2 on the season with a 13-0 shutout win over No. 9 St. Pius X (1-6).
• 6A: Los Lunas (No. 11) winners in consecutive weeks handled business against No. 20 Albuquerque, 27-20.
• 6A: Bubbles popping as Eldorado No. 18 Eldorado upset No. 15 Sandia in double overtime, 42-39.
• 3A: No. 2 Ruidoso (7-1) handled business against No. 11 NMMI with a 50-0 win as they prep for a November run.
• 6A: Making it two wins in two weeks for the Clovis Wildcats (No. 19). The Wildcats protected Leon Williams Stadium with a 47-0 win over Santa Fe (No. 21).
