Coaching Profession

The question I want to ask, is coaching a dying profession? Obviously there is a teacher shortage in our state but an issue just as big is the lack of people going into coaching. I'm talking about people that are coming out of college that are planning on teaching and coaching.
I know we are a little short staffed and I would presume there are other schools in the state with a similar issue. What is alarming is that I have a buddy who runs a pretty good program in the San Angelo area and even he is short 5 coaching positions.
Maybe the pay increase will help get people back into the profession. Then again if people are making pretty good money teaching they may not want or need the extra stipend that comes with coaching especially with everything that is required of coaches.
Just wanted to get other people's thoughts on this. Maybe I'm overreacting a bit.
