RECAP - #3 Belen stuns #2 Los Lunas with second half run to win, 50-41

What a game basketball can be. I don't know about you, but Belen looked depleted trailing Los Lunas early and through 3/4 of the 3rd Quarter. Los Lunas was rolling and took what seemed like a commanding 31-15 lead late in the 3rd. Then over the course of the last 2:30 in the quarter, Belen goes on a 11-0 run. Los Lunas in their spread opted for perimeter attempts but even when they were near the hoop in the fourth they couldn't get a basket to go. Belen rallied and got within two before Los Lunas' Zeller scored off a steal. Then Belen took their first lead after an Alexis Aguilar 3-point play off the pick-and-pop with Garrett Gallegos. Belen never looked back and behind a 35-10 run since trailing by 16 points, they defeated their district rival on their way to the 5A championship.

Daily Dozen: Top Players From March 6th

Dreamstyle Arena - 5A & 4A

#1 Alyssa Adams (Moriarty/2018): The senior dropped 22 points but it doesn't account for her affect on the Lady Pintos. She has range from well beyond the arch and that's an understatement.

#2 Lanae Billy (Shiprock/2022): I almost had a heart attack when I learned that Billy was only an 8th grader. She was poised, she had the best ball control among point guards. She is special people. She put in a smooth 22 points yesterday in a win over Silver.

#3 Brianna Roybal (Robertson/2018): Didn't have a great night but is a knock down prospect. She has great size for a wing and potential shooting guard at the next level. Definitely, a basketball IQ player.

Others

#4 Alyssa Quintana (Bloomfield)
#5 Haile Gleason (Kirtland Central)

Difference in Players Playing in Europe

So far this calendar year we have seen a bunch of young Americans head to Europe to play professionally. There has been little public backlash like previous years.

Although, this article shows you the difference in how at least El Tri Coaches push lock FMF clubs to let players leave. When we had Klinsman doing this, it was blasphemy and he was anti-MLS. With the current change in president and no current USMNT coach, these kids better hit the exit quickly before the new GM and USMNT Coach are announced.

3A: No. 1 Texico vs No. 8 Dexter

The Demons put a good fight but it was too much Texico. The mismatch of Nathan Phipps and entry passing and dribble penetration by Texico proved to be almost unstoppable. A 22-point quarter for the Wolverines created the separation Dexter couldn't overcome. Texico dominated the paint with 46 points to Dexter's 10 and scored 20 points off turnovers. Texico moves on to the semifinals where they'll away the winner of #4 Santa Rosa and #5 Newcomb.

Scores

Texico
Nathan Phipps - 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting
Dalton Thatcher - 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting
Paden McDermid - 13 points

Dexter
David Miramontes - 15 points
Jarren Amaro - 9 points
Marco Olivas - 8 points

TEAM STATS

Texico shot 66.7% from the field, 6 for 11 from the 3-point line for 54.5%
Dexter shot 31.9% from the field, 5 for 23 from the 3-point line for 21.7%
