Both teams 0 for district so far. Boys team was predicted by the New Mexican to win district. Girls team was also expected to compete for district championship. Both programs definitely have talent and many players come from the Espanola Valley. What’s going on here?

RANKING WHAT TO WATCH
1. Espanola Valley (21-1) at Capital (18-5): This game would have had more meaning if Capital didn't fall earlier in the week to Del Norte. However, a rivalry is a rivalry and the crowd will be loud and the gym packed. Prediction: Espanola Valley is too good this season. (EVHS -8)

2. St. Pius X (14-7) at Los Lunas (19-4): SPX is a mystery team this season with highs and lows. One high was the win on January 23rd over top ranked Los Lunas (59-57). This one is takes place in Los Lunas where the Tigers are 8-0 on the season. Prediction: Los Lunas won't fall twice to the Sartans. (LL -3)

3. Hobbs (15-8) at Onate (5-4): Both teams are playing for position. Hobbs (6-3) looking for a first round home game as the district runner up, they hold the lead over Onate (5-4). Prediction: Onate is 8-1 at home and that one loss comes in district play to Gadsden. I am going with Hobbs even though of the three loss, in district play, two are on the road for the Eagles. (Hobbs -5)

How do you predict teams going into the season?

The Los Lunas wrestlers took down the mighty Eagles of Belen 39-23. This clinches the first district title for the Tigers since 2013. I don't know if anyone saw this coming, except maybe the Tigers. They won 9 of the 14 matches. Congrats to the Tigers. Makes for an interesting state tourney!

Braden Gluth of Santa Teresa has committed to the Lobos. Coming off of some time off he was finding it at the end of the fall. BG is gonna be a beast when he gets done growing and a good one for the Lobos. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is sitting mid/high 80s and touching some 90s by April/May.
