in the NMAA Hall of Pride and Honor.
The Board of Directors elected Mr. T.J. Parks as President and Mr. Anthony Casados as Vice President for
a two-year term.
The Board of Directors approved a contract extension for Executive Director, Sally Marquez, through the
2019-2020 school year.
Ms. Marquez gave her Director's Report which included information on a very successful 2016-2017
school year, a special thank you to the NMAA Board, Commission, Appeals, Hardship, and
Classification/Alignment committees for their work, and a recognition of NMAA Assistant Director Scott
Evans who will be retiring in June.
Business Manager Shari Kessler-Schwaner presented the NMAA Financial Report which included
information from all state championships that occurred during 2016-2017 and an overview of ticket sales
from these events.
Ms. Marquez discussed the 2017-2018 NMAA Budget with the Board of Directors. The Board voted to
approve the budget as presented.
Deputy Director Dana Pappas presented the NMAA Activities Report which included information on the
numerous activity events that occurred during the spring semester, the upcoming Music Advisory Council
meetings, and an overview of the Student Leadership Advisory Committee members and their work.
Ms. Pappas presented the NM Officials Association Report which included information on the assignment
process for State Basketball, the March Recruitment Symposium, the April Executive Board Meeting, and
the upcoming State Clinic and Awards Banquet.
Ms. Marquez presented a discussion item pertaining to scholastic eligibility. She reported to the Board of
Directors that the NMAA will be establishing a committee to look at scholastic eligibility as a whole to
determine if the Association should consider updates to this area of its Handbook.
Santa Fe Indian School Athletic Director Eric Brock and representatives presented several items to the
Board of Directors for discussion. These included the re-classification process, concerns about the
multiplier and how it is applied to Native American boarding schools, and possible representation on the
NMAA Board for Native American schools.
The Board of Directors took action on the following items:
-Voted in favor of a proposal to add NMAA Bylaw 7.15.1.L (25-second play clock in football).
-Voted in favor of a proposal to modify NMAA Bylaw 7.15.4.F (250-mile rule for state football).
-Voted in favor of a proposal to modify Bylaws 13.1.2 & 13.2.2 (Right of Appeal).
The selections have been made for all-state. I've heard some pretty...interesting...selections.
Anyone know where the complete list can be viewed ?
Also, what is the process and criteria for these selections. Are they based on the entire year or on performance in state tournament ?
I'll be doing a lot of traveling around the state in June, July and August as we get ready for the 2017 FB season. Any restaurants I should hit along the way?
The santafenewmexican was first to report that Joey Trujillo has stepped down as head coach of the Elks. Trujillo spent 13 years at the helm winning 242 games and a state championship.
