Lordsburg Names New Head Coach

Hooper Named Head Coach at Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Mavericks have named their new head coach replacing legendary head coach Louie Baisa, who spent 27-years at the helm. Enter Dale Hooper a successful head coach at each and every one of his stops.

Hooper leaves 5A football's Alamogordo High School after four years, posting a 19-23 record with the Tigers. Under Hooper the Tigers improved each season going from 1-9 in 2013, 5-5 in 2014, 6-4 in 2015 and 7-5 this past season making the quarterfinals of the State Playoffs.

For me this was the best decision for my family, Hooper explained. "For me this going home, I get to live on my ranch and do the thing I love coaching football. Life is good man"

Hooper will be down the road from Western New Mexico University commit and 2017 Alamogordo graduate Kyle Hooper. Also, his older son attends New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Coach Hooper's wife will also be working for the school district in Lordsburg.

I am honored to be given the opportunity to coach Lordsburg football. "It was hard to leave Alamogordo. They treated us great, the people were amazing to me and my family. It's an honor to follow Coach Baisa who was there 27-years, winning the recent state title".

Mother Nature: Winning

Just heard that the Taos-St. Mikes game has been suspended for the 2nd consecutive day. With a different district doubleheader scheduled for both of them tomorrow, the re-scheduling is going to be a nightmare. Weather is going to be playing a factor all weekend around the state. Is it inevitable that the seeding is possibly going to be pushed back to Monday night or to Tuesday?

From Coach Jaques today

Being a head coach requires a commitment of time and energy 365 days a year, my wife and I have been discussing our options over the past few years about the commitment and energy that is required and we both decided that the time had come to go about doing something different in life. We have nothing but the utmost respect for the teachers, staff and students at Oñate and know that they deserve a coach who is going to fulfill the required time and energy. We hope nothing but the best for Oñate football.
