Belen wrestlers beat Los Lunas

In a great rivalry matchup the Eagles scored 39 points and the Tigers scored 24 points. Both teams wrestled hard and gave their fans an exiting and entertaining athletic event. Belen has beaten Cleveland, Rio Grande, and Los Lunas as well as winning their own tournament. This has occurred since last Friday. The Tigers have Also done very well. They were the champions at the Bernalillo Duals. Both teams will be at the Robertson tourney this weekend. Valencia will also be there.
They have had a good season as well.

New Enrollment Figures

PED just released the 2016-17 enrollment figures. When I average these 2016-17 figures with the past two years, the 9th-12th enrollments shake out like what I posted below. I am not sure which numbers NMAA will use when it discusses realignment but these 3-year averages could provide some clue as to how things will shake out. For 6A the most interesting changes could be Capital rising into the top 24 while Highland drops into 5A. Will both Highland and Valley petition to play up? Not sure. According to these numbers, Portales could potentially move into 5A. I did not calculate 3 year averages for all of 4A. Mayfield and Las Cruces HS also saw enrollment growth as well. These numbers do not factor in alternatives or charters and I am not sure NMAA uses those numbers anyway because if they did Alamogordo would still be 6A. Academy and Pius numbers are approximates.

Media Guide Help

The school I am at now(Jack Britt in NC) currently does not have a media guide and I want to start it up here. I feel it would be a great for that little extra sponsor money and it would help boost the program. Does anyone here have any knowledge of how their school deals with their media guides? Like what are some of the package deals they offer and maybe some prices they offer to the sponsors? Any and all information would be appreciated, I'm just trying to help these kids out. Thank you!!!

Showdown in the Southeast

The hype has been growing for weeks now and finally the two undefeated teams left in 6A are heading into their first district meeting with first place up for grabs. No. 1 Carlsbad (19-0 | 5-0) and No. 2 Hobbs (18-0 | 5-0) face off tonight in Carlsbad for that number one spot in the rankings.

Both teams boast impressive resumes heading into tonight:

Carlsbad has wins at Espanola Valley, Goddard, Roswell, La Cueva, and against 3A title contenders Tohatchi and Tularosa.

Hobbs is boasting two wins against 5A #1 Roswell, a dominant 30-point win over La Cueva, and a 21-point win against 4A title contender Portales.

Rundown: Carlsbad

The Cavegirls may likely boast one of the tallest and deepest frontcourts in the state. They’ve got great hands handling the pass inside offensively and do a superb job crashing the boards. Their guards are two of the more proficient tandems in the state with Mariel Gomez at point and Carsyn Boswell at shooting guard. Boswell has displayed her ability to slash to the basket and shoot from the perimeter while Gomez at 5’11” manages their offense quite efficiently.

Carlsbad’s bread and butter is in their halfcourt offense. They showed their ability to pass over shorter defenses at Gallup and pick them apart from the inside out. They don’t often get out in transition unless it’s off a turnover and Boswell is able to get out in the open court.

For Carlsbad the question becomes if they can stay out of foul trouble against a quicker Hobbs team, and if they can take advantage of their size advantage in the paint?

Rundown: Hobbs

If Coach Carpenter were to disc jockey the same way he rotates his players, he’d by playing some deep cuts. The Hobbs Lady Eagles have a reputation of being one of the deepest teams in the state with a consistent rotation of players that is known to go 15-deep. And with the pace the Lady Eagles play at it should be no surprise. Here’s a shocker, this Lady Eagles team's bread and butter is getting in the high tempo game and out in transition (Who would’ve guessed it at Hobbs, right?).

They’re skilled at the guard/forward position with Amaya Lewis, Ayanna Smith, and Amiah Smith. Although they’re not nearly as tall as the Carlsbad frontcourt, this Hobbs team can move. And they're not afraid to shoot from distance too as they've shown before with plenty of scoring from beyond the arc. With Ayanna Smith likely playing the 5-spot against a taller front line she may be the difference maker in the paint.

For Hobbs the question is how well they’ll attack the Carlsbad zone, and defend the taller Carlsbad frontcourt?

Prediction

Hobbs has the depth, shooting ability, and quickness to beat Carlsbad. Carlsbad has the size and patience to wear down a Hobbs team inside-out.

My guess? Hobbs just recently got a strong win over a good Mayfield team. They’re tested and ready to play ball. Lady Eagles get the win on the road by 9 tonight.

Greyhounds getting it done in the classroom

The Lone Star Conference released the commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall Semester. Students must have a minimum of a 3.3 GPA to be named to the list. ENMU led the conference with 171 student athletes being named to the list. 46 of those athletes had a 4.0 average. Congrats to all who are excelling in athletics and academics.

Bob Bradley hired.....then fired at Swansea

Well....The first American to manage in the EPL was in and out in the blink of an eye.
That was kinda fast. 11games - 2W 2D 7L.....29GA

I was hoping that would've gone a little better. I did wake up a few Saturdays to catch some of those Swansea games and there just wasnt enough of a change or enough of a feel to make it look like he had things moving in the positive direction.

I wonder where he gets his next chance/ Back to France? Holland?
