What do you make of Volcano Vista beating Rio Rancho by 20?

Cleveland only getting better, beat Cibola by 15?

Atrisco will win 4-6A? They beat West Mesa and in first place now.

Farmington won't lose again until the state tournament, if they do lose? They beat Gallup by 11.

How good is Hondo?

Did Pecos really hold a team to 9-points? What do you make of that?

Kirtland Central beat Aztec on Thursday, are they one of the biggest sleepers in 5A?

Best Game
: #2 Hobbs at #4 Mayfield
One would think a game the night before you have to go on the road would bother some teams. I don't think that'll bother Hobbs one bit. Mayfield's Coach Maya is one the best in state and should have a game plan for the 3rd Place Lady Trojans. If Hobbs wins by double-digits on the road the night after a big win, what can stop them from taking over the number one spot?

Upset Alert: Onate at Las Cruces
Both teams started district off with wins, but have since lost 3 straight. Onate's Jayden Perez and her team will look to play the role of spoiler against the Lady Bulldawgs (Perez's former team) and move up to 5th with a win over LC.

5A

Seed Spot: Kirtland Central at Farmington
KC and Farmington are floating around that mid-tier spot in the bracket projections and a win here could launch one of them into the Top-10. KC will look to continue their district momentum after a win against Aztec. Farmington looks to rebound after a loss on the road in Gallup.

Intrigued: Gallup at Miyamura
Gallup has had some close calls this season including a double-OT win over former district rival Grants. Both teams have had common opponents that they've nearly lost or nearly beaten this season. The G-town rivalry hasn't been this evenly matched in probably EVER.

No More "Ls": Artesia at Alamogordo,
Alamogordo is looking to avenge an early loss at Artesia (54-48) and stop a 5-game losing streak.

4A

Must See Game: Portales at Moriarty
After dropping down to 4A from 5A, Moriarty has done fairly well. They'll have to face a perennial state contender in Portales in the new 4A power district opener. Don't forget Hope is in that district as well.

Back Eight to Bubble: Hatch Valley at Silver
Silver has one of the better records from District 3-4A and with fairly equal play from fellow district rivals Cobre and Socorro, Silver will need to start their district play off the right foot or risk falling to the back end of the the bracket.

3A

Under-the-Radar Game: Tucumcari at Logan
Tucumcari is looking to continue their 8-game winning streak and picking up wins against potential district champs are just what the Lady Rattlers need. Logan is a district favorite after beating district foes Fort Sumner/House and Dora earlier this season.

College looking for 220/285 wrestlers

Northwest Kansas Tech, a community college in Goodland Kansas, is looking for state placing wrestlers in the 220-285 range...

They are currently ranked #16 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) coaches poll so it's a solid program and may be a stepping stone to get to a bigger program...

AFCA Proposed Changes to Redshirting, Recruiting & Staff Size

The following is the summary of the propose changes, which I think are all positives from what I could tell for college football as a whole.

Redshirting:
  • Maintaining the five-for-four model — a player has five years to complete his four seasons of on-field eligibility — but with a twist: A student-athlete would be able to take a redshirt season in any year in which he participates in four or fewer games. This would eliminate current medical redshirt requirement, which demands that a player suffer his injury prior to the start of the second half of the season and that he have not competed in more than three games or 30% of the season.
Recruiting:
  • Allowing high school prospects to sign national letters of intent on both that signing day and on an earlier date, held on the third Wednesday of December, which is currently reserved for junior-college prospects instead of the first Wednesday of February.
Staff Size:
  • Adding a 10th full-time assistant coach.
