BREAKING: CLEVELAND HIGH SCHOOL HIRES SEAN JIMENEZ AS THE SECOND HEAD COACH IN SCHOOL HISTORY

bn7dy6p3cbdebpufafqf

RIO RANCHO, NM - Former Rio Rancho High School and most recently Rio Grande High School head basketball coach Sean Jimenez has been hired as the new head coach at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho.

Jimenez on Thursday became only the second head coach in Cleveland High School history taking over for former mentor Brian Smith who took a job in California earlier this month.

"It's an honor to take over the program after Brian who I consider as one of my mentors after serving three years as his assistant at Rio Rancho. I am excited about this opportunity for my family and I but it will be big shoes to fill with the great program that Brian has built at Cleveland." Coach Jimenez explained on replacing Brian Smith.

Jimenez spent the past seven years as the head coach of the Rio Grande High School Ravens. The Ravens reached the State Tournament three times in his tenure with an Elite Eight appearance last season. Jimenez went 70-116 in the seven years at Rio Grande.

"This is a bitter sweet moment for me because the coaches, administration, parents and players of Rio Grande built a strong program at Rio Grande. The players are coming up wanting to be Ravens and that's what we set out to make and that's what Cleveland will get. A coach who cares about the community and players now and in the future."

Jimenez went on the say, "Rio Grande is in a good place, they have some talent returning the next few years with a few players I know can play at the college level. It was going to take an extraordinary job to leave and that is what Cleveland is. This is a dream come true job"

Jimenez served as an assistant coach under former Cleveland head coach Brian Smith at Rio Rancho guiding the Rams to their first state championship in school history.

14 Weeks (98 Days) Until Season Opening

It's the last of classes today. That means the HS football season is coming. Can't wait for the season opening games in just 14 weeks! What are the biggest games on August 26/27?
I, personally, will be at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces to watch our Rio Rancho Rams play LC Mayfield. That seems like a pretty awesome opening game. Then, the next day, Cleveland opens their season at Field of Dreams vs Onate. I'd say Las Cruces has a great weekend of football lined up!

Voters approve nation's most expensive high school football stadium

US Today Story

Voters in McKinney, Texas, approved a $220 million bond package that includes a new football stadium and events center that will be among the most expensive in the nation.

Depending on how you look at the numbers, it could be the most expensive. Construction of the 12,000-seat stadium accounts for $50.3 million of the current bond with another $12.5 million for infrastructure coming from a 2000 bond vote.

At $62.8 million, the total would be more than the $60 million that Allen spent for Eagle Stadium, which is an 18,000-seat stadium. It also would be more than the $62.5 million that Katy is spending for its stadium scheduled to open in 2017. Construction is ongoing.

Baseball Family

Since the season is officially over I have discovered one thing. New Mexico High School Baseball is one big family. We have had several set backs this year in loosing a great coach from Rio Rancho in Ray Chavez. We have to very strong men in Coach Gunther and Jarod Johnson both fighting cancer. I saw teams from all over the state come together and pray for all of these situations. That's what its all about, when you can put aside the game and thank and praise a heavenly father and do what ever you can for a person that has nothing to do with your team. That's when you know that there is a strong Baseball community in the state of New Mexico. We were blessed with another great state tournament teams played great and every game was exciting. I know there can only be one state champion for each class but I would just like to say that every single person that was apart of this baseball community is a champion in my mind. So as the offseason comes and everyone gears up for another run and as topics and opinion's get posted everyday. Let us all remember one thing.. We are all called to be champions in life.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
