Hendo's Breakdown
I strongly believe if Williams would of played in a larger metro area he would be a 10-15 type offer prospect, maybe more. Some critics has questioned his top end speed, but remember he is only 17-18 years old and will get faster and stronger moving forward. His upside is tremendous and he has some great size and does things that most can't which is cause major mis-matches inside the red-zone and his leaping ability is outstanding. Think the Lobos landed someone special here, NMSU really missed out by not offering him. Still shocked at that, you should of seen him at the camp he lit it up.

Player Rankings Top Forwards in the Class of 2018

Top Forwards in the Class of 2018
Joshua J. Grine

Today, we start listing our Top Prospect Report that will lead us to our Top 50 players in each classification and eventually our NMPreps.com's Top 100 Players in New Mexico.

Top Five

#1. Torry Locklin 2018 6'3 F Mayfield HS (Las Cruces, NM)

The sophomore forward had an impressive performance at the City of Champions Tournament in Artesia, New Mexico earlier this season. Locklin, has the physical tools to be a great player - wide shoulders, quick and strong. Locklin, is an athlete through and through that is sure to be one of the best players in the state by his senior season.

#2. Joe Elmalhy 2018 6'5 F Rio Rancho HS (Rio Rancho, NM)

Elmalhy is part of a starting sophomore duo for one of the best teams in 6A basketball in the Rio Rancho Rams. The work horse is smart around the basket and a team loaded with scorers Elmalhy continues to do the dirty work in the paint but finishes well when he has the ball. Stat Line: 7.8 ppg, 6.6 rbpg, 1.3 steals.

#3. Keshawn Banks 2018 6'3 F Rio Rancho HS (Rio Rancho, NM)

The second part of the starting sophomore duo for the Rams this season. Banks, is seeing his role improve and another player who plays well near the basket. Strong player that can finish with contact. Banks has work to do developing into a solid player but has the tools.

#4. Dalin Stanford 2018 6'3 F Goddard HS (Roswell, NM)

Stanford hit our radar early this season with a back-to-back top performances to start the season. Stanford is another prospect that we seen in Artesia during the City of Champions tournament that we left impressed with. Has good footwork and body control that can hit nice jumpers outside the paint. Could develop into a good forward in 4A. Stat Line: 5.3 ppg, 5.4 rbpg, 1 steal.

#5 Dee Smith 2018 6'1 F Alamogordo HS (Alamogordo, NM)

Smith is one of the bright spotlights for the Alamogordo Tigers who are playing well as of late winning 3 of the last 4 games, as of January 6th. Smith an athletic player that is developing into a quality player and could be one the players with the most upside if developed right.

7 Others To Watch

Joseph Ochoa 2018 6'3 F Deming HS (Deming, NM)
Azaziah Salazar 2018 6'4 F Espanola Valley HS (Espanola, NM)
Gregory Harris 2018 6'1 F Grants HS (Grants, NM)
Taylor Null 2018 6'3 F Artesia HS (Artesia, NM)
Matt Soto 2018 6'4 F Moriarty HS (Moriarty, NM)
Clay Strasner 2018 6'3 F Hobbs HS (Hobbs, NM)
Aiden Reardon 2018 6'2'' F Bosque (Albuquerque, NM)

Grine: Matt Soto might be the least known of the "7 Others To Watch" on the list but one player that we are extremely excited about, was a stud in middle school and could be a special prospect in 5A basketball.

Recruiting News Breaking Down The Commits: Daulton Hatley

Over the next few weeks leading up to National Signing Day we'll breakdown the Class of 2016 Commitments

Daulton Hatley - Clovis - Quarterback
Class of 2016
Committed to Southeastern Oklahoma

Video Highlights
Hendo's Breakdown
Watch the first two minutes of his film and you'll see that Hatley has the ability to out-run defenders running the read-option, has great zip on the football, very good touch in-side the red-zone, can throw on the run with the ability to keep his eyes down field, etc. What you cannot see on film is his ability to be a leader and a competitor, not sure if any high school seniors wanted to play college football more than him. He has improved tons year over year, would be interesting to see what he could do in a 90/10 pass oriented offense.

Mr. Basketball Watch: Onate's McCants Leading the Way

Mr. Basketball Watch: Onate's McCants Leading the Way
Joshua J. Grine

The season is in full swing as we enter 2016 and so is our watch for the top award in New Mexico High School basketball. We will track from now until March as we announce the

How I compiled my list? A majority comes from the updates we get throughout the season and we track it with our top performances along with weekly awards. We have our All-NMPreps.com Team announced each week along with Player of the Week Awards .

Johnny McCants, Onate High School

McCants has the Knights ranked 2nd in the state mid-way through the season and has played consistent the entire season with double-double games almost nightly. McCants, has given the people in the state something to talk about and with the Knights only playing better his name could stay among the top.

Daniel Amador, Roswell High School

Amador has made things easy for the list purposes as he accepts any challenge and continues to pour in big numbers. He has a 45 points performance, a 31 point performance and continues to play well. When a player continues to put up bug numbers no matter the coverage it's easy to list him this high.

Clay Patterson, Rio Rancho High School

Patterson the junior for the Rams is one of the most talented prospects in the state as an shooting guard. Patterson finds himself on the top performers list almost after each game for his top plays. One of the better guards who can create his own shot, penetrates among the best and clutch from behind the three point line.

Brenden Boatwright, Carlsbad High School

His stock has taken a small dip in the last two weeks of play but Boatwright has held his own early in the season with updates of 24 point games, 23 point games and double digits in rebounds.

Tomas Cano, Gadsden High School

Cano has played well this season for the Panthers and is the first player to even be among the list of candidates for the award. He would certainly be the first to win the award. Cano has played well on both ends of the ball this season.

Eric Coca, Capital High School

Coca has played well, the Jaguars are ranked in the the Top-10 and his name will stay among the list as the Jaguars move closer to a Final Four. An MVP and Player of the Week nod is only a testament to how good of a player he has been so far.

Gabe Bump, Albuquerque High School

The updates on Gabe Bump are far and few but when we receive them he has made the All-NMPreps.com team with a 31-point performance against Rio Rancho along with an opening 24 point performance.

Marcus Williams, Cleveland High School

Williams the athlete for the Storm does a little of everything for the Storm this season from bringing up the ball at times, to playing out front on D or hitting the open jumpers. A special player that will find his name as a finalist the further the Storm go this season.

Hobbs High Awarded Golden Football

Today the NFL sent souvenir golden footballs to 3,000 high schools that had players in past superbowls. Timmy Smith, who graduated from Hobbs in 1981 and then went on to play for Texas Tech and for the Redskins in their 1988 superbowl victory, was present at the school for the presentation. Timmy Smith set a record that still stands today at 204 rushing yards during the superbowl.

Were there any other high schools in New Mexico that received one of these footballs? I'd imagine several have.
