6A seeds

My opinion on seeds (not a prediction of what the NMAA will do):

1. Cibola
2. La Cueva
3. Las Cruces
4. Volcano Vista
5. Atrisco Heritage
6. Albuquerque High
7. Rio Rancho
8. Cleveland
9. Onate
10. Sandia
11. Eldorado
12. Carlsbad

You could make an argument for Nos. 4-5-6 to be AHA/AHS/VV, because AHA won its district and AHS beat VV 4-1, but I think VV had the overall strongest season and deserves the No. 4.

I put Cleveland and Rio Rancho ahead of Onate because they both beat Onate, although it was very early in the season and in Rio Rancho.

The last at-large team in is Eldorado, over West Mesa and Hobbs, based on a stronger MaxPreps rating. Those three are very close. (Hobbs and Eldorado tied, 1-1, in the only head-to-head matchup among the three.)

Carlsbad is the lowest-ranked team in the field, but the NMAA may put them higher than No. 12 because they won their district. Also, if Hobbs gets in, Carlsbad will have to be ahead of them.

5A Seeds

This is how I would seed them:

1. Academy
2. Los Lunas
3. Capital
4. Farmington
5. Roswell
6. Chaparral
7. Centennial
8. Santa Teresa
9. Los Alamos
10. St. Pius
11. Valencia
12. Lovington

Last teams out: Goddard, Piedra Vista, Aztec

This is my own opinion of how they should be seeded, not how I think NMAA will seed them.

Sprint to the finish

With five days left in the season, every day will feature games that will affect district standings and state tournament seedings. No day is bigger than Tuesday.

La Cueva-Eldorado; Sandia-Manzano - La Cueva will clinch the district with a win today, and still has an outside shot at the No. 1 seed at state. An Eldorado win keeps both the Eagles and Sandia alive for the district title. Also, Eldorado is just a half-game ahead of Sandia in the district, although the Eagles own the tiebreaker between the two.

Gadsden at Onate; Las Cruces at Deming - Both Las Cruces and Onate are still alive for the district title. Gadsden is on the tournament bubble and could use a quality win.

Roswell at Lovington - The district title is on the line here. Remember, Lovington already beat Roswell once, so a draw today would give Lovington the tie-breaker. (Lovington still has a game with Goddard on Thursday, so a Roswell-Lovington draw today would leave the district title still in doubt.) Lovington is in a spot where they could be district champ if they win but possibly not even in the state tournament if they lose. As for Roswell, a loss would not only cost them the district but several slots in the state seedings, as they would have to be seeded behind Lovington. So, for the Coyotes, win today and you get a possible top-two seed at state; lose and you might have a first-round road game.

St. Pius at Academy - Academy will clinch the district with a win, and will probably win the district even with a loss, considering their 5-0 win over St. Pius two weeks ago. Academy is hoping their narrow loss at Farmington Saturday won't cost them the No. 1 seed at state. The Sartans will probably be in the state tournament field even with their mediocre record.

Gallup at Piedra Vista - PV remains in the state tournament hunt, but needs to stay ahead of Aztec in their district.

Los Lunas at Chaparral; Belen-Centennial; Valencia at Santa Teresa - Every game matters in this district. Los Lunas has an argument for the No. 1 seed at state, but this is a tough road matchup. Chaparral is trying stay above Centennial for the No. 2 spot in the district and the higher seed at state. Valencia is on the bubble for the tournament.

Hope at Sandia Prep - Sandia Prep has already won the district, but they may or may not get the top seed at state. A win today might give Hope a top-four seed at state.

Top seed in 5A?

How do you distinguish among the five district champions? MaxPreps rates them as follows (as of Tuesday morning):

1. Academy (15-2-2)
2. Roswell (16-2-0)
3. Los Lunas (14-4-1)
4. Capital (17-2-1)
5. Farmington (14-3-1)

As for head-to head games: Academy and Farmington split two 1-0 double overtime games; Los Lunas beat Capital 4-0; Capital beat Farmington 1-0.

Academy has the most impressive wins. They beat Albuquerque High, Volcano Vista, Cleveland, Rio Rancho and Atrisco Heritage, all of whom are in the top 10 in 6A. Los Lunas has been the best team in a very tough district. Roswell's home loss to Lovington hurts them.

Right now, I would seed them as 1) Academy; 2) Los Lunas; 3) Capital; 4) Farmington; 5) Roswell.

Who owes who?

I really liked this thread last year, and with district and playoffs coming up figured I see if we could get it going again. Plus Im not that bright and can't remember half of who owes who. I'll start the ones I can remember or at least think I have right.

Clayton Owes:

Estancia
Navajo Prep
Not sure of some of the other ones

Owes Clayton:

SR
Lordsburg (I am pretty certain of this but could be wrong)
Dexter?? (I though Hotel said this last year)
Tularosa (Clayton went there the year before I got here)

Not sure where we stand with: LA, Texico, Eunice, and some others
