Battle of the Borders

See link for rosters for this weekend. I know that all the kids on my roster are not from NM. I was asked to takes some Arkansas kids since they are a bordering state. I was also limited to roster spots in classes. For example I only get 6 spots for 2015. So guys that went last year might not be going back this year. We struggled last year and this year we will be more competitive. Team TX threw a Junior that was that is a Vandy commit that was 94-96. Team LA threw 2 LSU commits. Team OK threw a OK State and Arkansas commit at us.

This is my favorite event in the fall because we play to win. Not just a "showcase"

I would like to thank the head official and his crew for recognizing both teams for the game last friday at Santa rosa. Especially would like to thank the Dexter Demons players for recognizing #34 from Santa Rosa. We pray for you everyday!! You are part of our close fraternity that many don't understand. We believe in you and pray for you.

Could No. 1 Cibola finish third in its district?

Technically, yes, but not likely. Cibola's tie with Rio Rancho Saturday kept the district race alive for the time being. If Cleveland sweeps Cibola and Rio Rancho this week, Cleveland, Cibola and Volcano Vista would tie for the title. If Cleveland's win over Cibola is by four goals or more, Cleveland would win the district based on goal differential in games among this three teams, and VV would be second. (This assumes that VV and Cibola both beat Santa Fe).

Cibola, Cleveland, RR and VV are closely bunched in the standings, and any number of scenarios are possible at this point.

District 5-6A mess

Boys district leader Atrisco Heritage tied Valley on Wednesday, 0-0, leaving that district (and state seedings) far from decided with a week to go in the season. Current standings:

Atrisco Heritage (3-1-2) (11 pts.)
West Mesa (3-1-2) (11)
Albuquerque High (2-1-2) (8)
Valley (1-1-4) (7)
Rio Grande (0-5-0) (0)

Games remaining:
10/18: AHA vs. Rio Grande; Valley vs. Albuq. High
10/22: Rio Grande vs. Albuq. High; AHA vs. West Mesa
10/24: West Mesa vs. Albuq. High; Valley v. Rio Grande

The biggest surprise is West Mesa, which was 3-15 last year, and now controls its own destiny, as it will win the district with wins over AHA and Albuquerque High.

The new rule allowing games to end in a draw has really affected this district. Valley now has seven draws on the season (they are 4-5-7).

New Race Opens up (Dist 3-5A)

With Centennial losing to Chaparral last night, the runner up spot in that district is now up for grabs.

Los Lunas is the run away favorite and champ...unless something catastrophic happens.

Places 2-4 look like this

Chaparral 4-2-1 (13pts, +8)
Centennial 4-3-0 (12pts, +4)
Santa Teresa 3-3-1 (10pts, +5)

Each has 3 games left:
Chap - vs ST, vs Los Lunas, and v Belen
Cent - @Valencia, vs Belen, @ST
STHS @Chapa, vs Valencia, vs Centennial

Centennial has the "easier" of the remaining games.

The final standings in this group could have big seeding implications come tourney time, with alot of other schools getting displaced to make sure there are no "in-district" play off games.

Las Cruces boys

Las Cruces, ranked No. 2 in 6A, now needs help just to win its district. The Bulldawgs and Onate played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday, giving Onate the inside track to the district title. If the Knights (3-1-1 in district) sweep their last three games (vs. Deming, Gadsden and Mayfield), they will end up at worst in a tie with Las Cruces (4-1-1) atop the district standings. In that case, Onate would be the champ via tiebreaker.

It's not a guarantee that Onate will sweep, of course, especially considering that the Knights lost their first game with Mayfield, 4-2.

Gadsden also controls its destiny. The Panthers are 3-2, with games left against Las Cruces, Onate and Mayfield. Three wins would give them the district title.
