Sandia Prep Takes on Missouri

If y'all read the paper, you know that the Sandia Prep Mens Soccer team is in Missouri this weekend for one of the biggest and hardest high school tournaments. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on hoe they are doing, as long as my sources keep up to their promises.

Are there any thoughts on Prep taking on the national stage? Should more teams get a shot at a big tournament like this?

Seeding & Selection & TIes/Draws

With the new points system in place, how do you think the S&S Committee will look at a teams Ties/Draws? Do you think they will seed the teams based on the total points or look at every teams point breakdown versus each Class?

I guess I'm asking more for the "At Large" teams and the lower seeds. If a team finishes 2nd or 3rd in their district but has a few "Ties/Draws" do you think the committee will take the time to look at who the Tie/Draw was against or look at the MaxPreps SoS number?

District Champs still get automatic play-off births, no questions there, unless it comes to seeding the top 4 and you look at point totals and again the draws could come into play.

Boys Rankings - 9/21

6A

1. Cibola (9-0-1)

2. La Cueva (5-3)

3. Albuquerque (6-2-1)

4. Las Cruces (8-1-3)

5. Volcano Vista (5-4-1)

7. Eldorado (5-3-1)

8. Rio
Rancho (6-4-2)

9. Onate (6-4-1)

10. Gadsden (6-4-2)

Perhaps harsh to drop Las Cruces from No. 2 to No. 4 after only one
loss, but they have to be behind La Cueva after the Bears' 3-0 win, and Albuquerque
High gets in at No. 3 after becoming the first team to beat (or even score on)
Sandia Prep. The top four appear to be a
level ahead of anyone else in 6A. Onate
and Gadsden move into the top 10, replacing Hobbs and Valley.

5A:

1. Roswell (8-1)
2. Academy (8-1-2)
3. Chaparral (8-2)
4. Farmington (6-2-1)
5. Centennial (7-2-1)
6. Los Lunas (6-3-1)
7. Capital (8-2-1)
8. Santa Teresa (4-2-3)
9. Valencia (6-4)
10. Aztec (7-1-1)

Academy moves up a spot after a big week highlighted by a
4-1 win over Rio Rancho as well as defeat of Atrisco Heritage and a road win
at Los Alamos. Los Lunas climbs to No, 6
with a 4-0 win over Capital. Aztec still
needs to prove itself worthy of its record.

Comments welcome.

Kenny to the bigs

This is an article from the Morning Call from Allentown, PA. Ken Giles is getting a chance with the

Phillies, being moved up from the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

With Adams on the DL, the Ken Giles era begins

Since April, fans have been calling for the 100-mph throwing right-hander Ken Giles to join the Phillies. It's been a little bit of a wait, but he's finally here.
The Phillies announced after Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds that righty Mike Adams was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right rotator cuff inflammation and Giles would have his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Giles, 23, will be available for Sunday's 1:05 p.m. game in Cincinnati.
He began the season with Double-A Reading and posted some amazing numbers, prompting the calls for his promotion. In 13 games, Giles had a 1.20 ERA striking out 29 of the 57 batters he faced while walking five and earning seven saves.
Giles hasn't been as dominant at the Triple-A level but he's still been pretty good. He has a 2.63 ERA and five saves in 11 games. He's faced the same number of hitters as in Double-A (57) but he's getting a lot less swings and misses. Only nine of them have struck out.
While it will be interesting to see what the young reliever can do in the big leagues, the injury to Adams is a huge loss for the Phillies.
Adams has helped stabilize a bullpen that began the season as one of baseball's worst by appearing in 14 straight games without allowing an earned run. In fact, he's only allowed earned runs in two of his 19 games this season.
Not only will it affect the Phillies on the field, it could also keep them from trading Adams by the July 31 deadline if his DL stay is too long or he doesn't have time to prove he's healthy.
His name has surfaced as a possible trade candidate if Philadelphia decides to go the fire sale route, but it'll be much harder to move him if teams think he's damaged goods.

Good luck to him and the Phillies.
