Notes: White is hands down one of the best the state has to offer and played well all season.

Notes: Not including the intangibles he brings to the table Ramos is averaging 20 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game for the Jaguars. Ramos is also the reigning award winner of Mr. Basketball for New Mexico.

Ricky Lujan (Onate High School)
Class: 2020
Notes: One of the top overall players in the state and led the Knights all season long.

Seyi Okeyu (Valley High School)
Class: 2020
Notes: Guided the Vikings to back to back titles and one of the must-see players all season.

Tate Sorgen (Melrose High School)

Notes: The small school prospect helped the Buffaloes to the 2020 State Championship. Averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

Review: The Bulldogs went 0-3 in district play last and finished at .500 on the year. However, they still notched a road playoff win and still considered a true threat. The question is what type of team will they be in 2020 after losing four of their last five games and also, as many remember, they lost the Eddy County Rivalry game.

Overview: The Bulldogs lose plenty in star quarterback Clay Houghtaling who leaves after tossing for over 3,000 yards last season. Typically, we know who is next to take over as QB-1 because they've received plenty of reps. Going into 2020, it doesn't feel we know that answer. Good news is the return of all-state WR Braxton McDonald back for his senior season but on a new offensive make-up in terms of skilled players for the Orange this season.

Prediction: 5-5 Overall Record. Playoff team.

Spring Ranking: Top-5 like program. (Entire 5A ranking will release after we highlight each team).

DEL NORTE KNIGHTS
Head Coach: Bruce Langston (1st Year)
2019 Record: 4-6 overall, 2-1 district
2019 Playoffs: Missed Playoffs
Key Returning Players: Isaiah Ortiz (RB/2021); Adrian Marquez (QB/2021); Cruz Garcia (CB/2022)

Review: The Del Norte Knights under former head coach Bruce Binkley achieved great heights as being a school in a tough area to build a power program. They continued to float around their 2019 record at 4-6 and featured some playoff appearance and that could be considered an overachievement. The Knights won 3 of their last 4 games to end the Binkley era and were 6-points shy of a district championship.

Preview: The good news for new head coach Bruce Langston is the return of athlete Isaiah Ortiz who rushed for nearly 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. The Knights have some solid skilled position players returning, some depth in areas and the lone replacement could be the receiving core - pending the style of play they will display in 2020.

Review: Well, the Lobos went winless during the 2019 campaign and didn't score a point until the fourth week of the football season. They actually only score 32 points all season long and never scored in double figures. The Lobos, although they struggled, could be building for the future.

Preview: The Lobos were not good last season. That we know but they appear to have displayed a very young squad with plenty of sophomore (2022) starters last season. Will that pay off for the Lobos? Can they return to that one magical season in 2017 when they went 6-4? That is yet to be answered but look for Peter Castro (2022) to continue to develop and with more experience could get them sniffing back at a few wins on the year.

Key Returning Pieces: Gio Munoz (RB/2021), Luke Padilla (RB/2021), Manual Vargas (QB/2021)

Review: The Capital Jaguars won 6-games last season, the District Championship and reached the state playoffs. The Jaguars seen running back Luke Padilla rush for just shy of 2,000-yards last season.

Preview: The Jaguars only graduated two players on offense, three on defense and have plenty of returning pieces to have some excitement about. They return running back tandem in Gio Munoz and Luke Padilla to provide plenty of depth and if quarterback - if he remains QB-1 after sharing time last season - could be a triple factor in the backfield.

Schedule wise the Jaguars move into a new, tougher, district with the likes of Farmington, Miymura and Piedra Vista along with Los Alamos staying with Capital as the only two from the previous alignment.

Key Returning Pieces: Anthony Roybal (RB), Gavin Chavez (WR)

Review: The Belen Eagles experienced their first losing season since the 2015 season under then head coach John Lerma. The Eagles entered the 2019 season under a new head coach in Ty House, a former Hobbs assistant coach, and the difference between the start of his tenure and that of former Belen head coach Greg Henington (2016-2018; 27-9 overall record) was a true rebuild.

House not only has to establish his system but he will have to do it trying to get experience after they have graduated much of their talent of the 2016-2018 span.

Preview: The Eagles will still be building. They will be looking for an identity, looking for on-the-field leaders, while developing some of the talent. Will House be a pass first coach or does he go to the run? They seemed to lean more on the pass and they will have to replace Luke Aragon who has since graduated. They return Anthony Roybal (2021) who rushed for 700-yards last season on 100-carries.

Prediction: 3/4 wins

ALAMOGORDO TIGERS
Head Coach: AJ Cisco
2019 Record: 4-7 overall, 1-2 district
Post Season: Quarterfinals (L, Roswell 48-17); First Round (W, Santa Teresa 27-26)

Review: The Tigers achieved and improved last season. AJ Cisco has been building his program for a couple years now and doing it the right way. The Tigers ended things in a huge way last season winning two of the last three - one of those over Artesia (28-22) and the other a playoff win over Santa Teresa (27-26).

Preview: The Tigers took a huge step forward last season, as mentioned, and the best news for the Tiger faithful is the return of many of the go-to players. Sean Hays returns after rushing for over 1,800 yards last season.

Spring Prediction: 6-4 record. Reach the playoffs and win a game.

Terribly sorry for all the coaches and players, especially the seniors.

Am I just in denial or is this truely a done deal. Does anyone think there is any chance we can salvage any part of the season. I'm talking even a chance we have just a District Playoff and then a State playoff starting last week of April.... 4 weeks of games, no fans, warmer weather, is it even possible?

Theres just an unexplainable emptiness right now. I can only imagine how these kids feel.
