Hello Coaches,

Hope all is well and I hope all of your programs are off to a good start for this upcoming and exciting basketball period for our youth. As most of you have heard, we had a tragic event happen with one of our area youth players. For those of you who have not heard, one of our outstanding athletes Marcus Wilson who is an 8th grader at Tony Hillerman, was diagnosed with an infection on his brain. This has caused him to have multiple procedures to correct the infection within the last couple of weeks. He is projected to be in the hospital for numerous weeks and the recovery is expected to take multiple months.

Marcus, his family and his basketball family are all confident and positive that he will make a full recovery and return to the court in the future. However, as you all would probably expect, there is and will be thousands of dollars in medical bills that his family will have to deal with, while helping with the recovery process with Marcus.

With that being said, programs which include NM Dogs (Parra) (James), NM Heat (Chavez), NM Road Runners (Guliford), NM Havoc (Baca) and members of the community have organized a benefit tournament to help Marcus and his family raise for these medical expenses. The tournament is for all ages both boys and girls and is only $175 the Tournament will be on May 31- June 2 2019. Games will be played in Albuquerque and surrounding local gyms.
Please Coaches forward to any and everyone you know in the basketball circuit to make this a big event for Marcus. Again all proceed will go to Marcus and his family! Any questions please contact me or Coach James on the flyer.

It looks like there is a high probability of rain across the state on Friday. What happens if Friday games get rained out? Play double-header on Saturday and 3rd game on Monday, if necessary? Can you even play 3 games on one day under NMAA rules? What if the rain is so bad on Friday that the field in unplayable on Saturday? Move everything to Monday/Tuesday? Just curious if anyone is making contingency plans and what those plans are.

Kale Lucas of Farmington High School has signed a letter of intent to play football at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California as a preferred walk-on. He has a roster position as a receiver and will join the Cardinal Family this football season.

He feels blessed and honored to have this opportunity both athletically and academically. He looks forward to competing in the PAC 12.
