Music in the weightroom

Here is (I think) a good debate topic. I have seen many weight rooms and most if not all have loud music playing. These days it seems rap is the most common but hard rock still is around.
I have to take the minority side. I feel music is a hindrance.

1. It inhibits coaching - form - communication with athletes and among athletes
2. The claim music "pumps me up" is bogus. If you can't play football without Ozzy Osborne, something is wrong.
3. It is a distraction. We all have seen students(in class even) with earbuds claiming, "it helps me focus.' It does not.
4. The music chosen is often in direct contrast to what we are teaching. I am not a music snob but what is the message in the rap you have playing in the weight room? How about the message Black Sabbath is sending?

If you are pro-music in the weight room, how much coaching is going on during these work-outs? What message is being sent? Many coaches and athletes that I respect swear by music, but would they not have been successful if there weren't giant speakers in the weight room?

Attended their skills camp last Friday and was offered by Head Coach Joe Morris. In 2017 and in 5A he was second team all state safety and all district receiver. Hope Solo Comments

So what do you guys think of this? (I dont remember original article source, so went with Sporting News)

http://www.sportingnews.com/soccer/...h-white-kid-sport-/1xahd40xg3jn21t7zkvfr5hiyc

I would tend to agree and maybe edit her remarks to take away "white" in most case and just go with general "rich kid sport". Its a hugely sensitive issue, no one with any sort of platform has touched it as publicly as Solo has in awhile.

I do think that if you look at, say especially the USWNT, that there is a big lack of diversity. The USMNT has gone in waves, I think. We are a super diverse nation, we could field a super diverse team of both genders but somehow I think we fall short.

What are some of y'alls thoughts?

AAU and Club Scence Updates Spring and Summer 2018

This weekend is the first available NCAA live period for the club circuit. The nation's top talent will be in the Dallas Metroplex for tournaments hosted by Nike, Adidas, and Under Armor.

NM Shock is in Amarillo for regional event that 2 other NM squads are playing. Team Swoosh (ABQ/RR) and Santa Fe Style, a long with the Shock should be prepping the 505 pretty decently. There's a local tourney going this weekend in the greater Q hosted by the NM Havoc club called the Coronado Classic. Feel free to post updates. I'll be posting today as the NM Squads get going early this morning.
