TOP FIVE

(1) La Cueva (Last season: 28-1, 10-0):
The Bears are the reigning state champs and riding a 28-game win streak. Studs to watch - Ben Schoneman (2019/P), Jack Pineda (2018/INF) and Austin Schlagel (2018/INF).

(2) Piedra Vista Panthers (Last season: 22-8, 5-3): Mike McGaha, head coach, will once again have the Panthers as one of the top teams in the state the return after a final four finish. They return a stout roster around Chase Silseth (2018), Deylan Pigford (2018) and Nate Swarts (2018) along with Brendan Anderson (2018).

(3) Rio Rancho Rams (Last season: 20-9, 4-4): Head Coach Ron Murphy returns a wealth of talent this season looking for a big year in 2018. Studs included Bodhi Bolen (2018/P), Clayton Kempski (2020/C) and Gunner Gouldsmith (2020/SS). Kempski (UNM) and Gouldsmith (Washington State) have recently committed.

(4) Las Cruces Bulldawgs (Last season: 16-10, 6-6): The Bulldawgs are looking to have a strong season behind top prospect Tristen Lively (2018/P). Others to watch are Ivan Molina (2019), Ryan Olson (2018) and Shane Mora (2018).

(5) Carlsbad Cavemen (Last season: 22-8, 7-5): Carlsbad will be with a new head coach this season and transition from MLB first round draft pick Trevor Rogers (Florida Marlins). Nate Arrington (2018) and Rio Granger (2019) look to be the face with former Goddard head coach Alan Edmonson taking over this season.

6A - BASEBALL

1. Cennential Hawks (11-2)
Notes: The Hawks went 3-0 last week with wins over Cobre (17-0) and a pair at Hobbs (11-2 & 3-1), all on the road.

2. La Cueva Bears (8-2)
Notes: Making the jump into the 2-spot is the La Cueva Bears who are riding an 8-game win streak. They went 4-0 this week winning the APS Metro Championships. The earned wins over Eldorado (10-0), Volcano Vista (12-2), Atrisco Heritage (10-7) and Del Norte (16-0).

3. Eldorado Eagles (6-4)
Notes: Also, make a jump this week was the Eldorado Eagles that went 3-1 and playing in the APS Metro Championships. Earned wins over Rio Rancho (6-1), Cleveland (3-0) and Albuquerque (7-3).

4. Rio Rancho Rams (11-4)
Notes: The Rams went 3-1 last week during the APS Metro with wins over Highland (11-1), St. Pius X (3-2), and Volcano Vista (7-3). The lone loss to Eldorado (6-1).

5. Cleveland Storm (6-4)
Notes: The Storm went 3-1 last week during the APS Metro. The Storm earned wins over Cibola (7-5), St. Pius X (8-5) and Sandia (15-1). The loss came against Eldorado (3-0).

6. Clovis Wildcats (9-3)
Notes: The Wildcats started the week going 3-0 before dropping the final game of the week in the Rocket Invitational to host Goddard (5-4). Wins came against Portales (7-0), Ruidoso (18-4) and Faith Christian, Texas (6-1).

7. Piedra Vista Panthers (9-5)
Notes: The Panthers split this week going 2-2 while at the Boras Classic in Arizona (Corona Del Sol). The Panthers beat Skyridge, UT (1-0) and Mountain View, AZ (3-2). They dropped to Catalina Foothills, AZ (2-1) and Liberty, AZ (9-3).

8. Carlsbad Cavemen (10-3)
Notes: The Cavement won their final two games of the week after an early loss to Goddard (10-5). They won a doubleheader over Mayfield (3-1 and 4-1).

9. Las Cruces Bulldawgs (7-5)
Notes: The Bulldawgs snapped a 2-game losing streak in week three going 2-0 during week 4. They earned wins in a doubleheader over Silver (15-8; 2-1).

10. Volcano Vista Hawks (5-5)
Notes: The newest member of the NMPreps.com Top-10 this week is the Hawks. Volcano Vista went 2-2 last week and earned a win over Sandia (3-0) along with Valley (11-2). They dropped a pair to La Cueva (12-2) and Rio Rancho (7-3).

5A RANKINGS
1. Goddard Rockets (8-0)
Notes: The Rockets stay perfect through four weeks of baseball. They earned wins over Clovis (5-4), Ruidoso (4-3), Alamogordo (12-2), and Miyamura (8-2) in the Goddard Rockets Invite. They also notched a win over 6A - Carlsbad (10-5).

2. Santa Teresa Desert Warriors (9-2)
Notes: The Desert Warriors stay in the 2-spot after a 1-0 week beating Onate (6-3) at home.

3. Artesia Bulldogs (6-3)
Notes: The Bulldogs had a big week during week four with wins over Kirtland Central (11-8), Moriarty (12-2) and Belen (5-4) to win the Artesia Tournament.

4. Belen Eagles (10-3)
Notes: The Eagles fall from the third spot last week after going 2-1 but dropping a resume game to Artesia (5-4). They earned wins over Deming (13-2) and Lovington (1-0).

5. St. Pius X Sartans (6-6)
Notes: The Sartans went 2-2 last week during the APS Metro Championships. They dropped a pair of games to 6A top ten teams Rio Rancho (3-2) and Cleveland (8-5). Wins came against Atrisco Heritage (8-3) and Rio Grande (13-5).

6. Deming Wildcats (6-4)
Notes: The Wildcats drop a few spots this week after opening the Artesia Tournament with a (13-2) loss to Belen. They recovered with two wins - Roswell (4-2) and Kirtland Central (10-) - heading into week 5 with a 2-game win streak.

7. Valencia Jaguars (4-5)
Notes: The Jaguars split this week going 1-1 in a doubleheader against 6A's Santa Fe High School.

8. Miyamura Patriots (5-4)
Notes: The Patriots fall this week after going 1-2. The dropped their first two games to start the week to Alamogordo (2-0) and Goddard (8-2) but ended the week with a 6-5 win over Bloomfield.

9. Farmington Scorpions (3-3)
Notes: The Scorpions went 1-0 this week with a win over Durango, Colorado (4-3).

10. Albuquerque Academy Chargers (4-5)
Notes: The Chargers were open last week. They are 2-5 in their last 7 games.
