Somebody that is up there...what is the feel about the new pool play system? I heard that there was an issue about three teams going 2-1 in their pool and reverting back to head to head a second time after it was said runs allowed was going to be the tie breaker.

I know a lot of the old school guys want it to still be an 8-9 team double elim and you have to win a regional to get there...but time have changed for sure.

Lavar Ball, should we actually be worried about this guys antics.

last week during a big aau tournament he pulled his aau team off the court because he didn't like the officiating and was recorded in the hallway telling these kids they were being cheated and they didn't have to put up with it, now I've been to many aau tournaments and seen this happen a lot more than you would think, the thing is it doesn't receive national media coverage the way he does, so this weekend his team is at another tournament and when Lavar walks in he has teenager by the dozens flocking to him wanting to be on his team or get his autograph or whatever and during this tournament hosted by adidas he again threatens to pull his team because he doesn't like a referee and to keep him from doing that adidas officials actually have the referee removed from the game, now Lavar claims that this ref was targeting his team all week and I coached many years in aau and I know many times I felt that way just as most coaches probably have and I also believe referees do target certain players, coaches and teams and in my time I've even seen money change hands And many other rules broken at this level but again nobody had national media coverage with hundreds of thousands of basketball aspiring kids watching the way this guy does and none of us had a shoe brand where we were trying to get these kids parents to fork over 3 or 4 hundred bucks a pair for his product.
On the surface it sure looks like these antics may be premeditated for just that reason, the ? Is should parents be worried about this guys influence on their kids and there pocketbooks not to mention the black eye it gives aau basketball which already has enough critics by itself and should something be done about him.

Lavar actually ende up getting another tech in the second half of the same game and was ejected anyways but that part was conveniently left out of mos reports.

"Team camp" week

This is something that annually bothers me, although no one else seems to care much. Several teams in ABQ (La Cueva, Sandia, Manzano, maybe others) use the last week before practice officially starts to have what they call a "team camp." That usually involves a week of two-a-day practices on the same schedule as next week's tryout week.

I think this is just a way to get in an extra week of practice before the NMAA's official start date of Aug. 7. They can skirt the rule by saying it isn't mandatory but I would bet every player in those programs would tell you they think it's mandatory if they want to make the team. The fact that the teams use practically the exact training schedule as they will use next week shows that this is something other than just summer workouts.

By the way, La Cueva goes a step further by charging their players $180-$200 to attend. And that is a school that usually has more soccer players try out than they can keep, so there are some kids that will pay this week only to get cut next week.

NCAA 2-a-day rule change

According to the new rule for the 2017 season:

"A single day may include a single, three-hour, on-field practice session and a walk-through. During walk-throughs, protective equipment such as helmets and pads can’t be worn, and contact is prohibited. Walk-throughs also can’t include conditioning activities and, in the Football Championship Subdivision, are limited to two hours in length. Three continuous hours of recovery are required between on-field practice and a walk-through. Activities such as meetings, film review, medical treatment and meals are allowed during recovery time."

July 31st

At midnight the clock officially starts for the 2017 football season.

Who will win the state title? That among plenty of other arguments will take place for the next four months before we crown another champion in December.

If you are at a practice shoot us a picture of your squad hitting the field. We will post all day long into this thread from around the state. You can tweet at us pictures to @nmpreps, shoot me a text picture at (505) 414-4313 or send me an email to grinejosh@yahoo.com.

Let's see how many pictures we can get. Enjoy. Football Eve.
