Great job this season!

I have guys out scouting all over the state pretty much every weekend and I have to say, I have never been more impressed with what guys all over the state are doing. Predictions if all things stay the same over the next 2 years:
1) Lovington and Rowell become perennial playoff teams and all four from that district get in each year
2) Aztec and Miyamura make 1-5A impossible to predict
3) 3 way tie for 1st place at the end of the season in 3-5A
4) 2015/16 season will have even more parity than 2014/15

HS baseball coaches and players are putting in a lot of work and it is very evident. Proud of our sport!

Zeke Long Signs

Academy RHP Zeke Long is going to play baseball at MIT. That is what a 35 ACT gets you! He will be getting the best engineering degree in the world!

If you are an "academic student" you are crazy to not go and tryout at the AZ Fall Classic All Academic Game. Zeke was heavily recruited out of that and part of the reason he got into MIT was because of baseball. Even with a 35 he was borderline to get in.

Clovis pitcher throws 10-inning complete game (107 pitches)

Covered the Hobbs versus Clovis doubleheader Tuesday and watched Clovis' Landon Williams throws a 10-inning complete game on just 107 pitches (76 strikes). Nothing overpowering but threw strikes, located well and let his defense work (no walks, six strikeouts). First time I've seen this in my nine years covering prep baseball in the state (OK ... I know back in the day some dude probably with a cool nickname threw both ends of a doubleheader, hit in the three hole and walked up hill both ways to get to the ball park - I'm just saying in recent times it's darn impressive).

It's just a reminder to folks in this wood bat age of New Mexico high school baseball – if you throw strikes and locate, you'll be successful even if you don't throw real hard. I'm shocked with the number of walks I still see when these bats have taken a good chunk of the power in the game away.
