2A/1A 1st Round Preview

We start the week previewing the Class 2A/1A State Baseball 1st Round Match Ups. While Magdalena and Melrose are big time favorites to meet up in the finals, this tournament bracket has some very good teams. More tournament coverage to follow!

No. 8 Gateway Christian vs. No.1 Magdalena
Preview: The Warriors have won just 6 games this year under Head Coach Rick Rapp, however their tough schedule should prepare them for red hot Magdalena. The Steers are 24-1 this year and have won 9-games in a row. Watch for Dre Montoya who has an average of .469 with 50 RBI’s, he is also 10-0 on the mound.

No. 5 Questa vs. No. 4 McCurdy
Preview: The Wildcats at 15-6 this year will play McCurdy for a 4th time this year. Currently they trail the series 2 games to 1. Questa puts a ton of runs on the board, they have scored 39 runs in their last three games. Watch for Isaiah Chavez who is batting .507 with 24 RBI’s. McCurdy is 16-5 on the year and has won 7 in a row. As mentioned they have beaten Questa twice already. McCurdy has only two seniors on their roster, so if they can’t make a run this year, the following years look promising.

No. 6 Logan vs. No. 3 Floyd
Preview: The Logan Longhorns are 10-9 on the year and led by senior standout Wyatt Strand who is batting .657 at the plate with 13 RBI’s. They have played Floyd 4 times on the year and have been beaten 4 times. The Floyd Broncos are 15-6 on the year and have won three in a row. They are coming off wins against Gateway and Dora.

No. 7 Jemez Valley vs. No. 2 Melrose
Preview: The Warriors are 8-8 on the season and riding a two game winnings streak into the playoffs. We’ve seen Jemez Valley turn it up for the playoffs, but they are the big underdogs against a loaded Melrose team. The Buffaloes are 11-1 on the year, impressive considering they only have three seniors. Gage Dietz is batting .500 with 26 RBI’s.

Ruidoso needs help!

Hey everyone, We need some help here in Ruidoso! There is a contest going on through bell helmets that will award a $100,000 grant for mountain bike trail building in each region of the US; East, Central, and West coast. Please click the link below and select the New Mexico cedar creek project, enter your email and confirm the vote. We are only a couple hundred votes behind and this project would have a tremendous economic impact on our Village.

Summer Travel Baseball

We have a kid in Clovis, Kurt Kelley (SS/2nd) looking for a place/team to get on this summer to travel with. Great kid, hard worker, zero issues with attitude and effort. Just wants to play and there is not a ton of options around Clovis.

ABA do you have any slots?

What about the new place?

I am just trying to help a good kid who loves baseball.

I have checked with 4 corners and they are trying to help us.

Rio Rancho Football Player Nationally Ranked

Josh Foley a Sophmore Corner Back who started on this years 6A undefeated State Championship Team is currently ranked 29th in the United States in the 110 Hurdles. His time of 14.79 at the Metro meet puts him as the 29th fastest Sophmore in the United States.

Josh is currently 5'11" and weighs 185lbs. Will probably start at Running Back and CB for Rio Rancho this fall. Let's see what the 2 D1 NM Schools think of this? Will they wait until he is offered somewhere else or will they come early and try to seal the deal?

We are not holding our breath by he way!
