Coach Marv Sanders

From Farmington High School Basketball Facebook Page:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we relay the news that New Mexico coaching LEGEND, Marv Sanders has passed away after a long and courageous battle against Parkinson’s Disease.
Although a few words here are so inadequate when compared to the influence Coach Sanders had on the lives of so many, let us try and say “Thank you, Coach”.
Overall, Coach Sanders won 864 games as a Coach in New Mexico. He also led 3 different teams to a total of 4 State Champioships. He is the third winningest Coach in NM Basketball and in 2015, Coach Sanders was inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall Of Fame.
But, humbly, we ask that you allow us to be a little bit selfish. You see, Coach Sanders was OUR Coach. Coach Sanders arrived at Farmington High in 1980 and coached our Scorpions for 23 years. He led us to two State Championships (82 and 86) and in his last year (2003) he again led our Scorpions to the State Title game. More importantly, he touched the lives of so many young men and ingrained ideals of hard work, fair play and determination into all those whom he coached.
Coach, you will always be remembered and respected. You showed us what it is to be a Scorpion. You were and will always be a part of the fabric, not only of Scorpion Basketball, but also for all of Farmington High School, our Community and our State.
The term “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) is thrown around a lot these days, but Coach, you are ours. Thank you for all of the memories.
We send our deepest condolences to the family members, friends, and all those impacted by the life of Coach Marv Sanders.

Player Rankings NMPreps 35 for 35: Top 35 Player Rankings - Aden Chavez

NO. 30 ADEN CHAVEZ

School: Cibola High School
Year: 2023
Position: QB
6-foot-5 | 195

Yes, the Cibola quarterback who had our eyes wide open after his freshman season in 2019, will likely be moving up the charts the moment we hit the field. Had we just finished his sophomore season I believe we would have a handful of schools knocking and stock flying high. There is a lot to like about Chavez and is an accurate quarterback, makes good decisions and gritty-signal type play-caller. He sees a window and he will take it but also showed some legs.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you all for sticking with us here during this time and keeping us going another year! We have some more things we’d like to add in the new year and honestly just glad we have you to help get our players the looks they need, also great sports talk and overall for creating the spot to be for everyday New Mexico athletics!
Have a wonderful day!

NFL/ 12/20

The upsets by the Bengals and Jets were truly shocking. The Jet win over the Rams may have cost them the number 1 draft pick but the players and coaches were happier than fat rats eating cheese. Going ofer for the season would have been a dubious distinction. The Bengals beat the Steelers for the first time since 2009. They celebrated as if they had won the Super Bowl. Just goes to to show you in any given game in the NFL, anyone can win.
