Week 10 Storylines...

Week 10 Storylines

NMPreps.com's view for the week and quick things to get you ready for week 10 of the season.

1. Chase for the playoffs - home game: No. 9 Manzano (4-4, 2-1) vs Eldorado (5-3, 1-2). The Manzano Monarchs are now in a position to earn a first-road home game if they can beat Eldorado. After the Eldorado Eagles shutout loss to Clovis they fell just outside the top-10 and a win could still put them in position for a 8-seed. Details: Thursday. Early Grine line: Manzano -6

2. Who is No. 2 in 2A? No. 2 Santa Rosa (8-1) at Fort Sumner (8-0). Fort Sumner has yet to lose a game since the 2016 season and hoping to extend that streak. Santa Rosa could lock up the 2-seed in the state playoffs with a win here. Details: Friday. Early Grine Line: Santa Rosa -1

3. Bubble Talk in 6A: Las Cruces (4-4) at Carlsbad (4-3-1). The loser could be in the 5th spot in district 3-6A and in jeopardy of being left out of the state playoffs or in the 12 spot. Either way the loser has some concern and the winner gets IN.

4. Top-4 Seed on the Line: Volcano Vista (6-2) at Rio Rancho (4-4). The Volcano Vista Hawks are still in the conversation for a top-4 seed and a win here gives them a very good chance at getting the only at-large bid for a top-4. Rio Rancho in the conversation for a 1st round home game could move up and a DRUP in 1-6A could put them in that conversation for a top-4 too. Details: Friday. Early Grine Line: Volcano Vista -7.5

5. Is Lovington the 1-seed in 4A? Lovington (4-4) at Ruidoso (5-3). Ruidoso had a big loss last week to Portales and now in the talk for a 6-9 seed. Lovington played the toughest pre-district schedule and hope that it prepared them for a post season run. A win here will put us with a Lovington-Portales district championship game.

6. The 1-seed in 5A? Artesia (5-3) at Goddard (7-0-1). Artesia is the new number one in 5A this week after leaping frogging Goddard, who stays at No. 2. The Bulldogs will win the district with a win here. Goddard who is technically still undefeated will put them in the conversation for a 1-seed and a district championship.

More

Newcomb (9-0) at Escalante (7-2) for the district championship in 1-2A.

NMMI (5-3) at Tularosa (4-4) playoff spot on the line and a 1st round home game in 4A.

Resume game: Silver (5-3) at Santa Teresa (6-2)

The Night of a Lifetime for the EnergyPlex

Quickly moving past Hobbs' loss...the other four Lea County teams had a night of a lifetime. In the absolutely unbelievable & impossible category...Eunice only ran 5 offensive plays all night in a 67-0 destruction of Loving. Not a typo...5 total offensive plays all night. Wow. Also, Lovington, Eunice, Jal & Tatum won by a combined score of 216-32. Lovington 50-6. Eunice 67-0. Jal 50-0. Tatum 49-26. I suppose you could toss in the Hobbs loss considering the Goodyear Blimp circled the stadium. I wonder how many times that has ever happened for a high school game. Certainly never in NM.

Best of The West Las Cruces

I want to say thank you to the High School coaches in NM that have supported their kids playing with NMSB or in our events this fall. It has been a lot of work but our 3rd and final showcase went well considering Cruces was hammered with rain. We were limited to only 2 of the 3 fields at FOD but we made it work.. This was by far the most rewarding event for me this fall, 15 teams participated. The colleges were talking to so many of the kids over the weekend... If I get numbers on how many kids commit will get it on here..

Frank Phillips, North Eastern Colorado, Pima, Cochise, Yavapai, Otero, Park University, New Mexico HIghlands,NMMI, El Paso, Eastern Arizona. Mets were there Friday, Royals, Nationals and Giants stayed till the last game on Sunday.

New Redshirt rule - unintended consequences...

We are seeing schools releasing upperclassman players to transfer after fewer than four games played this season.

Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant, who started each of the first four games but was splitting playing time with freshman Trevor Lawrence, put a face on the issue when he left the Tigers in-season.

Players leaving a team — while remaining on scholarship aide for the remainder of their fall semester — creates a free agency sort of element to college football...
