What team south of Albuquerque might win a state title?

New Mexico soccer has mostly been dominated by metro schools, and a few northern teams like Farmington and Los Alamos. Las Cruces has had some quality boys teams, and Roswell has had a few, but other than that there have been few consistent title contenders from the south. What follows is a list of schools south of Albuquerque that have made the title game since 2000 (champions in bold, runners-up in regular case);

Boys:
2013: LAS CRUCES (6A), ROSWELL (5A)
2012: CHAPARRAL (5A)
2011: Portales (A-3A), Belen (4A)
2010: Mayfield (5A), Belen (4A)
2008: Mayfield (5A)
2007: LAS CRUCES (5A), Socorro (4A)
2005: Hatch Valley (A-3A)
2003: Mayfield (5A)
2002: Las Cruces (5A)
2000: Hobbs (5A), SANTA TERESA (A-3A)

Girls:
2006: Las Cruces (5A)
2005: LAS CRUCES (5A)
2003: LAS CRUCES (5A)

Any southern schools that might have a legit title shot this year?

Its Go Time!!

Here we go!

Things get real tomorrow morning! Most teams down south get started next Tuesday, mostly everyone will be in action by the weekend of the 19th.

Speaking to a number of the other coaches, it seems that lots of programs consider themselves "young". The two that didnt were Centennial and Onate. We will see how the 6A shapes up quickly since they basically start district by week 3.
