Time for a Change

Get rid of District Tournaments. What, Haven't you been a huge fan of these games? Yes!

What to Add instead
However I say add a NiT type of tournament. Top-16 teams go to State. Last 8 teams play a double elimination NIT tournament. This moves the season up to end a week earlier as well

Worth a shot at something new for this week. Games Wednesday-Friday.

Then on Saturday have the first round of the state tournament.

I think teams get a better post season than regular district tournaments..

Oh the last thing. Have two Regions instead of districts and conferences.. north and south. Each have 12 teams.

Here We Go: We Need to Give It A Chance

A one site championship day needs to see if it would be a success.

Yes, (blah blah) they won't even consider it and/or many think that they shouldn't. Or something that it's too cold outside in this hot New Mexico winters.

However, I think it needs a day to live before we could say that it worked or it doesn't.

So yes (I am not in the majority) but I would love to have one site for all state championships.

4A Question

Was talking with some media guys about UCONN women's basketball. Most of you have likely heard the talk on the radio. If UCONN women winning so much hurts or helps the women's game.

I was wondering however does Hope Christian winning so much hurt or help the state? Especially 4A Basketball.

Personally I could see either way. Cool to be able to see such a dominant thing happening yet again you'd like to see another team win it all.

Thoughts?

Shout out to Coach Campos at Manzano!

Just wanted to say Coach Campos is doing an excellent job at Manzano changing the culture and cultivating a higher level of expectations from the kids and bringing lots of knowledge and competitive attitude to the team. Further more, the field is looking great with a brand new mound professionally installed and other work he's gotten done on the field. And he did all this above-board, starting from a financial deficit and without bankrupting the team like last years coach. Campos has the kids and the parents engaged and participating, i.e. volunteering and fund raising. I don't doubt if in a couple of years, with his leadership, Manzano will be a more respected opponent both district and state wide.

Sadly I won't be around to watch most of the season but I feel really good and confident about my son being under Coach Campos' leadership. He has already gained a great deal under his tutelage.

Thanks, Coach!
Go Monarchs!

Hobbs Won Intense Game, Creates Playoff at 6 Tonight

The Hobbs Lady Eagles and the Carlsbad Cavegirls rematch was as bizarre and unusual as it was as intense and physical. The most notable item is that Carlsbad was the only undefeated team and were standing at number one. A win by them would have clinched the district title. The necessary playoff game is for the title tonight at 6:00 in Artesia as the "neutral site." When are we ever going to get a "neutral site" in Lovington in the same county close by (as Carlsbad always does) for these games to even things out a bit? That's right...never. LOL

Back to the game. There were some eye opening stats for sure. Amazingly, Carlsbad only scored five field goals for a total of 11 points in the entire game. Think about that. Five buckets in four quarters. Even more shocking is they did score 29 points of 36 shots at the line. Hobbs points were scored in a totally opposite type of situation as they seemingly could not hit ocean at the free throw line. The Lady Eagles basically outran the Cavegirls who are large for sure. Some of their individual players probably outweigh any Hobbs player by at least double.

Tonight's immediate turnaround playoff game should be very, very entertaining for sure. Get there early.
