Rio Rancho 63, Volcano Vista 54
Santa Rosa 69, Texico 61
To'hajiilee 76 Alamo Navajo 74

1. Santa Rosa the Real Deal. The Lions look primed more and more to be a Final Four to Title type of team in 2017. This team is disciplined and one of the best coached in the classification.

2. Gallup's Bubble is Safe. The Bengals needed to win, as they were the 16th seed in our latest bracket. They did just that and though they need some moving pieces to happen they seem to have stronger bubble at the moment.

3. To'hajiilee. At this time in the season you need to win, finish high in district play and peak at the right time. The class is a dark horse and the To'hajiilee team is among them - keep an eye.

4. Call me mayb.. Farmington. This might sound strange but they lost at the right time when they lost. Last season they rolled into the playoffs on a high and this season the loss to Kirtland could help them into a deep march run now that they earned that one back. We called they answered.

5. District 1-6A. We are watching this district closely and Cleveland looks ready to take the regular season crown. However, this one seems like it will only get better before it's done. Cleveland (5-1), Volcnao Vista (3-2), Rio Rancho (3-3), Cibola (3-3) is the standings with two games left.

Lordsburg's Louie Baisa

Daily Dimes: Thursday Hoops

Daily Dimes: Thursday Hoops

Must See: Cleveland hosts Cibola and Rio Rancho travels to Volcano Vista. The district is about the get crowded or will someone step up?

Time for Farmington?: They host Kirtland Central for the eventual first place position in 1-5A. Right now Kirtland Central is in the top-8 but can't finish as runner-up or they will slip out.

Bubble: Miyamura hosts Gallup and this one could be for the 16th seed in the state tournament. Lose and you're done.

Top-3 Seed: Silver dominated Socorro the first go-around. The Colts are playing for the 3-seed in the state tournament. They can't afford a loss to Socorro.

What Did I miss?

RECAP: Tuesday Night Shakeup (2/7)

Tuesday night was filled with some interesting results across the state. Here are a few that stand out and the consequences looking ahead.

CLASS 6A

Rio Rancho def. Espanola Valley, 54-44

With Espanola Valley controlling the first in their district, Rio Rancho picked a great win against a potential district champion. Whatever spark the Lady Rams have found they've done well to keep it burning bright winning 6 straight.

Sandia def. Eldorado, 53-42
Well, well. We've been waiting for Sandia to make the move with the offensive weapons they have. And we know Eldo' was due for an off game sooner or later. With this result, Sandia moves to 2nd place (point differential). Also, if Sandia and Eldorado can both win 2 of their next 3 and that includes wins against La Cueva we could see a 3-way tie in district for first place.

Centennial def. Mayfield, 52-51 (3OT)
The Lady Hawks got some revenge from the 14 point loss several weeks ago to Mayfield. A triple overtime win propels Centennial to 3rd place for now but a matchup against 4th place Las Cruces looms on Friday. If Centennial can get the win they can essentially wrap up the hold on third place if they close out district with a win against Onate. Mayfield is sitting in fifth and despite closing out this week with Gadsden, they have a road game at Hobbs next week and the district closer against Las Cruces.

CLASS 5A

Farmington def. Kirtland Central, 42-37
The upset couldn't have come at a worse time. KC's move on the district title next week took a huge hit with this loss and they'll need help to make the move to tie for first with Bloomfield. Keep in mind, Bloomfield has a makeup game with Gallup to play and that game is scheduled on the road after their game with KC. As for Farmington, they're now in a position to move up to fourth place with a win against Aztec on Friday.

Los Lunas def. Belen, 57-41
This win against Belen sets up the game with St. Pius X at home for the Lady Tigers who can clinch district with a W. As for Belen, they'll need to win two home games next week to make the move back ahead of Grants for third.

CLASS 4A

Taos def. St. Michael's, 50-45 (OT)
This win by Taos only adds to the madness that is this district. This district is a mess behind Robertson but here's the quick rundown: St. Michael's ceiling is 2nd place if PV loses 2 of their next 3 (and a bunch of point differential situations that have too many conditions to mention here). As for Taos their ceiling is 3rd but just as complex with the situations and they'll need help. For now, let's just say every game matters in this district to help solidify state tournament positions.

Silver def. Hatch Valley, 54-44
Hatch Valley's bid for first in district took a serious hit and will now need help from Socorro and Cobre to beat Silver if they want a chance to tie and force a playoff for first. As for Silver, if they can get the win against Socorro on the road Friday, they would clinch first in district.

Moriarty def. Portales, 38-33
Probably the most damaging hit in tournament seeding was this loss by Portales to Moriarty. It first helps Hope Christian clinch first in district. Then because of the point differential between the two teams, it gives Moriarty the advantage should there be a tie in the record. The only "hope" there is for Portales is to win out the rest of district play and that includes closing out district with a win against Hope Christian at home. Not exactly impossible, but against a Hope team that's hitting their stride, it's a tall order.

Coach of the Week: Terry Heisey (Hope Christian)
Dominance in district is nothing new for Hope Christian. Last week, the Lady Huskies picked up and pretty much sealed their first place position with wins over Portales and Moriarty (both teams worthy of being Top-5). With one district game left and March right around the corner, it looks like Coach Heisey has his girls primed and ready for their tournament run. Congratulations!
