All District and All State

Why is it that not all districts follow the same protocol for selecting players for All District and all state? I recently found out that in some districts, the first place team gets a set number and so forth down the line. Just seems to cheapen the process and the award. Example: 5 team district DC gets 5 all district places where last place team automatically gets just 1. Just seems odd to me. To top it off same for 2nd and HM

Feature Grine's Daily Dimes NMPreps Games to Watch Tonight - Tuesday, December 12th

Grine's Daily Dimes NMPreps Games to Watch Tonight

Today, our spotlight is on five high-stakes matchups in New Mexico high school basketball. Teams in the middle of the pack are eager to make a statement, and these games promise intense action on the court.

No. 11 (5A) Hobbs (3-2) at NR (Texas) Trinity Christian TX (12-4)

The Hobbs Eagles, currently ranked 11th in the NMPreps Week 3 Daily Team Rankings, face a formidable opponent in Trinity Christian TX. With a 2-2 record against Texas teams this season, the Eagles are led by standout scorer Abraham Pena, averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Keep a close eye on this clash.

No. 10 (5A) Los Lunas (3-2) vs. No. 3 (5A) Atrisco Heritage (4-0)

In a game that promises to steal the spotlight, Los Lunas takes on the third-ranked Atrisco Heritage Academy. Los Lunas, having slipped out of the top-five rankings, has a chance to prove themselves against a formidable opponent.

No. 15 (4A) Grants (3-1) vs. No. 20 (4A) Shiprock (4-0)

While not initially in the highlight reel, this game has the potential to tell a compelling story for both teams. Grants showcased their skills in Santa Fe last week, and Shiprock remains perfect at 4-0. Keep an eye on Noah Victorino's sharpshooting for Grants and Navaughn Begay's explosive performance for Shiprock, who dropped an impressive 28 points last week.

No. 14 (4A) Espanola Valley (2-3) vs. No. 16 (4A) Bernalillo (3-3)

This early bubble game could offer a glimpse into the 2024 state tournament. Espanola Valley, having secured crucial wins against tough opponents, faces a Bernalillo team aspiring to make its mark. With a key win over Del Norte last week, Bernalillo has the potential to rise, and this matchup could be the turning point.

No. 7 (3A) Bosque (4-1) vs. No. 3 (4A) Valley (3-2)

In the cross-classification game of the week, 3A Bosque heads across the river to face 4A Valley in a North Valley-Albuquerque battle. Bosque aims to play spoiler to the Valley Vikings, but it won't be an easy task. Bosque, led by standouts Kyle Morris and Cooper Hautau, boasts a formidable lineup, but Valley with Tyler Kozlowski dropping an impressive 19 points per game will be the favorite. Keep an eye on the performances of Luciano Mondragon and Julian Chavez in this front-court for Valley.
